But Mr. Beal, you don't own WFNX. If you did own both WFNX and the Boston Phoenix, you'd likely realize that the two mediocre properties need to cross-promote in order to be even slightly successful. (unless you want to have the Phoenix compete against El Mundo, that is)

Competition does exist, though. It's not as if your future listeners have the radio turned off right now. WJMN is definately getting most of the young Hispanic shares right now, and would certainly retaliate in some kind of way against a Hurban station on 101.7. If you went Spanish Tropical, you would have the genre and the language to yourself, though, as I believe you were proposing.

Another issue with the Boston market is the locations of the Spanish-speaking population. You would need a signal that reaches from Lowell/Lawrence in the north, to Brockton in the south, to Framingham or even Worcester in the west. No signal other than a full-market signal would be able to cover all of these areas. In fact, 101.7 will have a worse signal in Brockton after the CP is built than it has now.
The signal of 101.7 isn't very good at all, but because the format would fill a niche, listeners would likely listen through the static as there would be little competition, and because it's ratings suck right now, are valid reasons that the stick could work for the format.

Right, it will never happen on 101.7. However, I believe that a Hurban on some kind of signal in the Boston area, preferably programmed by Univision, would be successful and give Jam'n a good run for their Hispanic shares, while at the same time providing a dedicated station for the Spanish language (or Spanglish, actually).
