Do These fit the Hot AC Format

Do Rhianna's "Pon De Replay" and Pussycat Dolls "Buttons" fit the HOT AC format. I realize both of these are older songs, but I recently heard both on Milwaukee's WKTI. WKTI seems to be edging progressivly more towards a CHR leaning HOT AC with each passing week as of late. I understood Sean Kingston's "Beautiful Girls" as that sampled "Stand By Me", but these 2 surprised me. I am not complaining I think they both sounded great on hte station...just caught me off guard.

I'd say it all depends on your market situation, and if your Hot AC station leans in a particular direction (CHR, AAA, rock, etc). The interesting thing about the Hot AC format is that every station has a slightly different "flavor" than other Hot AC stations. We have a Hot AC competitor nearby who plays both of those songs almost every day. I guess it's all about what your "flavor" is! :)

It has a lot to do with the market make-up. Last time I was in Bean-town i was listening to WBMX and heard Nelly's EI. But, Boston has always been an R&B/urban-sounding market, regardless of demo makeup. As I understand it, one of the city's top 40s(WRKO? WCOP?) was one of the first stations to play R&B(later called rock and roll) back in the late 50s or early 60s
