Do todays kids even know what Dance is????

This may be a slightly good thing,,,, or not,,, I bet that if you asked most kids age 8-16 on long island what kind of music Party 105 plays, they would say rap and pop,, or something similar... Take that into account I bet if they just dumped all the dance on Party and played all hip hop most of their core audience wouldnt notice.

With that said, if you go to chicago and ask a 25-40 yr old what kind of music b-96 plays, most will say dance music,, due to their heritage and the fact they dont listen much anymore.

im 16 years old , live on long island, and listen to party 105... i know that all party 105's music is not rap and pop... although they do air a fair amount of it... i dont know anyone that listens to party 105 my age, but when they hear a "dance" song, they call it "techno", even when its house or another genre...so your probrably right

Welcome to the board bro,, its up to you to get your buds to tune into Party, Dance stations need these 12-18 demos cause they are the future target audience.. Im glad to see another Party fan, aside from vybe vegas its the only 24/7 comercial outlet dedicated to playing a fair amount of dance these days.... Some dance fans, and some rap fans are too picky,,, why cant more people like both genres like back in the 90s so this format can succeed.......... Party doesnt play any techno at all,, its all Hip Hop and House, which may be a good slogan fore them to educate people what they are playing, while also claiming to be hip hop and street.. When 95.3 party in Orlando first started they claimed to be blazing hip hop and dance.... They basically play the big rap songs that the urbans play, but fill in the r&b with dance,,, so why not.....

thanks... yea , id like to see a little more dance than they currently play but you cant be too picky when you dont have many choices to choose from for dance radio.. its actually my only choice for over - the -air dance radio(pulse 87 i can never pull in)... its hard to promote dance to my age group when the only dance they know is lady gaga or black eyed peas but stuff life David Guetta featuring Akon "Sexy Bitch" i think will work. They never heard of david guetta, but akon should catch their attention, so i think this dance artist / pop singer callaboration is the way for more exposure to the younger demo

Nice list Perry, what station is it from?????

Also,,,, David guetta doing a collaboration with Akon proves that the POP-Dance lines are gonna blur soon, as Kdm and chrles are kinda predicting. maybe we just need to loose the techno slang all together and just call it upbeat top 40,,, alot of people dont understand when you tell them you like Dance music, but if you say Techno, they are like,, Oh yeah,,, stuff like barbie girl, scatman, James brown is dead, macarina, Livin la vida loca, mambo number 5,,, do they even make that kinda music now days.... this being a conversation with someone 25-40 that remembers these songs.

Imagine if Eminem did the rap vocals on cascada Evvacuate the dancefloor, I bet everyone would be all over it....

If someone asks me what kind of music I like, I say that I like dance music, the kind of music they play on 87.7.

big ups Perry... Are you still at mega and Ipr, and 1club????

Well good luck Perry, Ill check it out when I remember.. I never heard partyradiousa is it a good station?

I listened to it today,,, not bad,,, its kind of a daring rhythmic ac if I had to define it... aye....

Any station that plays remixes instead of the original CHR hit version can expect immediate tune out (unless it's a "Club Kiss" type feature. Same with redundant house music (headache music) that would only sound good at some college kid's rave party.

As far as the kids and the dance music,
I'm sure most don't care, but they "all" think it's techno once they hear a fast beat, and according to them, they are believing that "for some reason, everybody seems to be turning techno".

As far as the cd,
well, I'll just say they better promote this cd properly and actually show the cd and cd case on the screen if they are planning on advertising it on t.v. This is the second cd of this kind of music I've seen advertised within the past month, and I'm thinking "NOW" will probably be the more successful out of the two because more people are familiar with the NOW cd series. I can only see the title being a problem in New York, where people are going to hear the advertisement, then turn on the radio looking for the station wondering "well, when is it going to play?"

Well if you have NOW and some other company both releasing similar cd's, that shows that SOMETHING must be going on... There's a little bit of a struggle still going on, but regardless, we are all on the verge of crossing over, and eventually, we'll manage to have at least two actual dance hits survive together for some time on top 40 radio. We're almost there. So far, we are just getting that one (pure/actual) dance song/artist/producer that makes it to MOST chr's, but always seems to die RIGHT BEFORE the next one makes it in.

I'd like to know when people that love dance music became the dance music police. Who are any of us to dictate exactly what dance music is? It is what it is to different people. The same way that rock music is. Just sayin'

At the bar I work at it's very VERY hard to get people to dance. When they do, it's the younger girls, but they'll dance to old Humpty Dance, the Cupid Shuffle, Cha-Cha Slide, Crazy Bitch, Pour Some Sugar On Me & Play That Funky Music. Unless there's a sports event on, anything other than "Jump Around" gets nothing. Oh yeah...they'll sometimes dance to "Sweet Home Alabama"...but not Kid Rock's "All Summer Long" or anything new- and these are the YOUNG crowd! ::)

This past weekend I headed up to Binghamton, NY since I still have a place up there, and decided to go downtown. There was a place there and the DJ was spinning but not that well. Anyway, he spinned some new dance like Jus Jack - Smoke, DJ Chuckie - Let The Bass Kick, and I heard some people complain to stop playing "techno" and play "dance" Convieniently I was at the booth and did tell them that this is dance music, but what they wanted was 3oh!3, Katy Perry, and The Fray in other words pop remixes heard on WWYL on weekend nights. About an hour later, this guy announced that a DJ from Pulse 87 was in the building, and half of the people left the venue because all that was played was straight up dance. I give credit to WWYL for doing mixshows, but get a live DJ mixing and expand the playlist in their mixshows.
