Do todays kids even know what Dance is????

At the bar I work at it's very VERY hard to get people to dance. When they do, it's the younger girls, but they'll dance to old Humpty Dance, the Cupid Shuffle, Cha-Cha Slide, Crazy Bitch, Pour Some Sugar On Me & Play That Funky Music. Unless there's a sports event on, anything other than "Jump Around" gets nothing. Oh yeah...they'll sometimes dance to "Sweet Home Alabama"...but not Kid Rock's "All Summer Long" or anything new- and these are the YOUNG crowd! :

Thats a bar. Ive worked the clubs and a several bars. The crowds are somewhat different. They want to hear the more rock based songs they can dance to or the older records. It also depends on the DJ. Im not saying you are bad DJ but I have found that bar DJ's are more like wedding djs.

The big question is do kids know what dance music is? The answer is yes. Speak as a person that does a lot of work with high school and college students, they all know what dance music is. The word techno is becoming less used.

This past weekend I headed up to Binghamton, NY since I still have a place up there, and decided to go downtown. There was a place there and the DJ was spinning but not that well. Anyway, he spinned some new dance like Jus Jack - Smoke, DJ Chuckie - Let The Bass Kick, and I heard some people complain to stop playing "techno" and play "dance" Convieniently I was at the booth and did tell them that this is dance music, but what they wanted was 3oh!3, Katy Perry, and The Fray in other words pop remixes heard on WWYL on weekend nights. About an hour later, this guy announced that a DJ from Pulse 87 was in the building, and half of the people left the venue because all that was played was straight up dance. I give credit to WWYL for doing mixshows, but get a live DJ mixing and expand the playlist in their mixshows.

A DJ from Pulse 87 spun in BINGHAMTON? Wow! Who was it? It's impossible to get Pulse 87 up there except for a few days in the summer.
I have noticed that bars play mostly hip hop, and all but one of the clubs I've been to played dance. Of course, I have only been to clubs that advertise on Pulse or clubs that have a Pulse 87 remote, except for one, and that club was the one that played hip hop and I had my worst club experience there.

Be lucky to get Pulse in Bingo, they have their own LP TV audio feed on 87.7 playing R&B. As far as the DJ "from" Pulse 87 was DJ Riz, which I think he's actualy from the Crooklyn Clan, not sure if he was a guest DJ on Pulse but they mentioned Pulse in the venue. The only reason Pulse is mentioned in Binghamton is because majority of BU students are from NYC and Long Island, which is why I only go to State Street when school is in session. Other times, the scene is dull and full of rock and country music.

One thing Jay Sean said he admired about the U.S. is that it's one of the few places you could go and find hip hop clubs. He pretty much said it's "quite unique and different" to see that, when normally you go anywhere else and it's dance... and I'll just leave it at that for now.

He also discussed his plans now that he crossed over into U.S. music charts, and talked about some of what Ne-yo plans to do now that he's stepped outside the country and has been inspired by CERTAIN THINGS he heard out there..

So.... people are learning (Although I'm sure Jay Sean already knew about dance for a long time now).

What the hell's the difference between a club & a bar? There are bars in my area that their names start out with the word "Club -_____" and they're the same as any other bar I go in. Same music too. Is it considered a "club" if there's a guy on turntables scratching 30 seconds of one remix into 30 seconds of another remix into 4 minutes of wordless beats then into a tune no one's familiar with, then if you're lucky, 45 seconds of something you know before it gets scratched away again into more pulsating noise?
Also, I again, am from a smaller town & not many people at all like techno. Or dance.
Back to topic:
Most kids today don't dance unless it's teenage girls pole dancing, emulating Britney or seing how trampy they can be, to the beat of "Lil Wayne" or T-Pain.
Skaters don't even like techno/dance. Most are into Slipknot & the like. Even Insane Clown Posse has lost popularity(insurance companies are probably happy).
