I think its a good song,, but I dont consider the Original version of Like a G6 a Dance Song,,, but I dont consider it Hip Hop either,, so what is it really...???? :-\
It's Urban Dance. Many club versions to suite most DJs. The previous single "Girls on the Dancefloor" was not as experimental sounding, but still Electro Popish
Rap, House & B, Bubble Gum, Uptempo R&B, Trey Songz, Techno, Hip House , Not freestyle...
That's just some of the modern names I can think of off the top of my head ;D
I used it as part of the joke because in addition to the ridiculous names I've heard so far for the unclassifiable music, I've seen Trey Songz mentioned quite a few times when it came to answering the questions "what is urban dance?" or "Where could I find some uptempo r&b songs?" ...etc. For some reason, people kept including Trey Songz within their answers to those questions, so I figured I might as well add it to the list of ridiculous names I've heard so far for the new no name dance sound.
I know that purists on both sides prefer to keep things in a neat tight box. You just can't do that with music. We're going through an experimental phase of dance where new sounds are clashing. That's when music is the best...
When I got into dance, the songs that were on the radio were M.A.R.S. Pump up the volume, Maurice Joshua-This is acid or Lil Louis-French Kiss.By today's standards all those songs would be consider Urban Dance.Even though they were just considered house/dance tracks when they came out. Granted it was Hot 97 NY where I heard them and this was not the case all over the country.
There were very very few pop house remixes or diva house thank god. If I wanted to hear something pop on the dance side there was Rick Astley, Pet Shop Boys or some of the other new wave groups besides the freestyle.
I have to admit that Urban Dance is probably the name that will stick to songs like Usher- DJ got us falling in love,Rihanna-Only girl in the world. The so called hybrid songs. To me it's just dance.Definitely not Hip Hop or R&B.
