Do Wheel and Jeopardy do well in your city?

The reason why I'm starting this thread is because in the market right next door to me, the Providence/New Bedford DMA (I'm in the Boston DMA), both Wheel and Jeopardy! have been on WPRI-12 (CBS) for almost 3 decades. For the first time ever, the NBC affiliate in Providence beat Wheel's ratings with their own 7pm newscast. I wonder what this will mean for Wheel on channel 12. Perhaps it could end up on another station, with Jeopardy! remaining on WPRI.

In Boston, both shows have moved several times, from WHDH for 17 years to WSBK for 8 years, and then finally to WBZ. Boston is one of only three CBS O&Os that air Wheel of Fortune (the others being KTVT Dallas and WCCO Minneapolis).

Here in the Boston area, this is what Wheel currently competes against:

WCVB-5 (ABC): Inside Edition
WHDH-7 (NBC): Access Hollywood
WFXT-25 (Fox): TMZ
WSBK-38 (MyTV): Big Bang Theory
WLVI-56 (CW): Two and a Half Men

In Providence:

WLNE-6 (ABC): omg! Insider (they DID have a 7pm newscast recently, to compete against WJAR)
WJAR-10 (NBC): 7pm news, as discussed
WLWC-28 (CW): Big Bang Theory
WNAC-64 (Fox): TMZ

So in both Boston and Providence, both Wheel and Jeopardy! are not on the #1 rated station in the market (WCVB in Boston, WJAR in Providence). Are there any other markets where Wheel of Fortune did get replaced with a 7pm newscast?

Wheel has been on WCCO for as long as I can remember. Its on at 6:30.

opposite it
KSTP ABC 5: News
KMSP FOX 9: TMZ
KARE NBC 11: Entertainment tonight (another show that has been at this time slot for years)
WFTC MY 29: Big Bang Theory
WUCW CW 23: Family Feud

Jeopardy had been at random times even on late night on WCCO (1:07 AM). They've been on KARE 11 at 4:30 for a while now

Milwaukee is a case of having Wheel dominate for years, with Jeopardy! right behind and making WDJT (CBS) a serious competitor in ways that hadn't been expected when they got the shows in 2005, when WTMJ (NBC) gave them up a few weeks before the Ken Jennings run; though they got the benefits of Jennings, they certainly weren't as invested in it as most stations because of being a lame duck.. WDJT also had a much better slot for it at 6pm and happily gave up a newscast there which did nothing, while WTMJ aired it at 3:30pm.

Since then, WDJT has done well in the 6pm, if with the usual older skew, but a much better lead in than what had been at 6:30pm, a mix of sitcoms and Inside Edition (which now airs on sister WMLW). WTMJ's attempts to air Access and Extra have done nothing, and they eventually went to news in the 6:30pm Wheel slot. WISN competes with ET, with WTMJ and WITI's TMZ at the same time, and WMLW carrying Big Bang Theory (since WMLW just moved over to a new signal a few months ago, ratings haven't been released for them) and WVTV (CW) having Family Feud and WCGV (My) with Family Guy. In Milwaukee it's widely believed that letting the Sony game shows go was stupid by WTMJ (and gave an early picture of what the Scripps stations are going through right now), and finally gave WDJT the respect it needed to compete.

Green Bay is odd too. WFRV was owned by CBS for years and had the shows distributed by a sister company since they premiered, but when Emmis made a sweetheart deal to up the shows on the Fox stations they had in '05 to move them to the 6pm hour in Mobile, New Orleans and Green Bay, Sony took the deal. WLUK got the shows in the 6pm hour and along with it eventually second place in the news ratings as WFRV took ET and WBAY (ABC) had The Insider (as of now though WFRV does local news at 6:30pm, with WBAY having ET), while WGBA basically doesn't exist with Inside Edition for years upon years. However, WBAY and WFRV also have varied Packer programming in the fall in the slot that throws off the ratings skew. Then WFRV flagged with the Nexstar purchase, with WLUK now a part of LIN when Emmis withdrew from television.

Seattle's Wheel and J! has been the same since *1985*. Wheel has been on KOMO at 7PM ever since the first syndicated episode. Jeopardy aired on KIRO in season 1 (1984-85), but then went to KOMO at 7:30 where it has been ever since. And that probably will NEVER change, unless one or the other is cancelled...(shh)

In Houston, KHOU (CBS) has been showing Wheelin the same 6:30 time slot for the past 24 years now, Going up against ET on KPRC (NBC), Eyewitness News on KTRK (ABC), Big Bang Theory reruns on KRIV (FOX), Reruns of HIMYM on KIAH Television (The CW), and reruns of The African-American targeted sitcom Are We There Yet? on KTXH (MyTV). All at the same time.

WTNH-TV (ABC) channel 8 of New Haven has run both shows in the 7 PM hour as long as I can remember. Presently, they air J first, then WOF. As for ratings, the top-rated station is usually WFSB-TV (CBS) channel 3 of Hartford, with WTNH-TV being third much of the time. The 10 PM news they produce for sister-station WCTX-TV (MY) channel 59 of New Haven gets killed by WTIC-TV (FOX) channel 61 of Hartford.

Both Wheel of Fortune & Jeopardy do well on WLS-TV. Wheel of Fortune has been on WLS-TV since 1984 in the 6:30pm timeslot. Until September 2012, Jeopardy was on at 3:30pm since 1983, & did well leading into the 4pm news. I'm not sure how well it's doing since ABC forced WLS-TV to put Katie on at 3pm on all 8 of their O&O stations. So until at least the end of next season, Jeopardy is on at 2:30pm. I forgot when repeats of both shows took place, but Saturday repeats have Jeopardy on at 6pm & Wheel of Fortune at 6:30pm.

In Atlanta WSB has ABC News at 7 and ET at 7:30 and it's practically
a runaway for Ch. 2. WATL has "Wheel" at 7 and sister station WXIA has
"Jeopardy!" at 7:30, put in almost in desperation after "Extra!"
tanked at that time. I think "Extra!" ended up on WATL at 7:30.

As for the affiliates:

WSB ABC News/ET
WAGA Access Hollywood/TMZ
WXIA The Daily 11 At 7/Jeopardy!
WGCL The Insider/Inside Edition

I think Wheel of Fortune should do better at 7:30PM on WXIA-Known to Atlantans as 11 Alive, instead of Jeopardy. I think Jeopardy should have been on WATL at 7:00PM because Wheel needs to be one of the 4 major TV networks-Including FOX, because Some FOX TV stations are now carrying Wheel, along with its sister game show Jeopardy-Like WVUE in New Orleans & WLUK in Green Bay, for instance.

In my area, Wheel and Jeopardy have been on WHP-21 (CBS) at 7pm and 7:30 (respectively), for almost 30 years now, with one exception - in the 1985-1986 season, Jeopardy was bumped out of its 7:30pm timeslot (going to 5:30) for the syndicated "Price is Right" hosted by Tom Kennedy. It moved back to the 7:30 slot in the fall of 1986 and has been there ever since.

They both premiered on WHP in the fall of '84.

Here's what it competes against:

WGAL-8 (NBC) - Entertainment Tonight/Access Hollywood
WLYH-15 (CW) -The Big Bang Theory (2 episodes) <- sister station of WHP
WHTM-27 (ABC) - News/Inside Edition
WITF-33 (PBS) - Sesame Street
WPMT-43 (FOX) Two and a Half Men (2 episodes)
WGCB-49 (Ind.) Coach/M*A*S*H

In Los Angeles, both Jeopardy! and Wheel have been on KABC since 1992; previous to that, KCBS carried both shows, with the timesolts flip-flopped for both shows, and before that, both were on KCOP (Wheel at 7, J! at 7:30) for many years.

Here's J!'s and Wheel's competition during the 7pm hour locally...

KCBS: Entertainment Tonight/omg Insider
KNBC: Extra/Access Hollywood
KTLA: Two and a Half Men (x2)
KCAL: Dr. Phil (week-old reruns)
KTTV: The Big Bang Theory (x2)
KCOP: News/TMZ (rerun from the 6pm showing on KTTV)

I think the WJAR win in the ratings was a rare thing. It may never happen again. Let's wait for a couple more ratings books before we think about changing any programming.

In the Jackson, Miss. market (90th ranked), Wheel has run on ABC affiliate Ch. 16 WAPT since the early 1990's at 6:30 p.m. Jeopardy used to air at 4 p.m. or 4:30 for a long time until 16 moved Judge Judy to the 4-5 time slot and pushed Jeopardy to 12:15 a.m.
Here is the 6:30 competition.
NBC afiliate Ch. 3 WLBT - Entertainment Tonight.
CBS afiliate Ch 12 WJTV - The Andy Griffith Show.
CW afiliate Ch. 34 WRBJ - Are We There Yet?
MYTV afiliate Ch. 35 WUFX - Family Deud
FOX afiliate Ch. 40 WDBD - The Big Bang Theory

In New York City Jeopardy has been on at 7PM on WABC-TV since 1987. Wheel joined it from WCBS-TV a couple of years later. And as far as I know, they've won in that timeslot pretty much the whole time.

As Wikipedia claims, putting Jeopardy on at 7PM Eastern on that station had a far-reaching effect nationwide:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeopardy!_broadcast_history#Alex_Trebek_era_.281984.E2.80.93present.29

As the schedule goes here:

WCBS-TV: Insider/Entertainment Tonight
WNBC: Extra/Access Hollywood
WNYW (Fox): Simpsons/Big Bang Theory
WABC-TV: Jeopardy/Wheel
WWOR (MY): How I Met Your Mother/King of Queens
WPIX (CW): Two and a Half Men/Family Guy

in Detroit, Wheel and Jeopardy! been a staple on WDIV since the the 1980s Currently both shows air at 7:00 (Wheel) and 7:30 (Jeopardy!)

Against Wheel/Jeopardy in Detroit:

WJBK (FOX): TMZ and Extra
WXYZ (ABC): 7 Action News at 7:00 and Entertainment Tonight
CBET (CBC): George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight and Coronation Street
WMYD (MYTV): Seinfeld and Friends
WADL (IND): The Parkers (x2)
WKBD (CW): The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men
WWJ (CBS):Family Feud (x2)

Both shows have been on WAKA Channel 8 Montgomery/Selma since the late 1980s.

Those two shows are still having success, after many years of airing them.

@Harrisburg: WITF still shows "Sesame Street" in the "prime access" hour after all these years? I'm sure MacNeil and Lehrer would be pleased. :-\

@DToTheJ: Yep - since 1991, it's been at 7pm. Actually, quite a few PBS stations in PA (WITF included) air the NewsHour at 6....
