Do you all think that bonneville will keep the sound?

Bonneville is veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery conservative.
I believe they will either flip, castrate, or trade The Sound to another company.

If the money and ratings are there...it will stay. They might tweak it a bit, remove some songs, and edit others, but I think they will keep it around at least for a while. They've owned rock stations before. They even have a "Movin" station in St. Louis that doesn't seem very Morman-ish. Just because I said this, please don't start rumors that Movin is coming to Cincy, because it's not.

Maybe they will pick up 1360 The Source and combine it as

CINCINNATI'S NEWS STATION

The new 1360 and 94.9 WSWD

I hope they dont touch a thing, but Bonneville is more conservative than my great aunt Tina who thinks that Bush is too liberal.

Bonneville has owned some great rock stations, including The Loop and The Drive. Maybe it will transition into more of a AAA station. That would work much better for the company.

Look for all the programming on the stations to drop any kind of lude or vulgar programming. I just hope they dont screw with KRQ. That has become one heck of a station!

Don't forget Bonneville also owned a modern rock/alternative station in Dallas/Ft. Worth. KDGE 94.5 was a Bonneville station for several years before they took an offer they couldn't refuse from Chancellor. I agree The Sound will stay if it makes money for them. The only concern is that it hasn't been on-air for very long, which means it may not get the chance it would have gotten had Entercom kept it.

One thing certain... Entercom is going to have to hurry and get that water intoxication contest on the air before Bonneville takes over!

Forget about hearing Alcohol or Lottery commercials when Bonneville gets control. As far as 949 Sound, Look for major changes as they could move to a Classic Rock/Alternative lean.

Lottery and casino commercials will go away, but at least some of the alcohol advertising will likely remain. You may not hear ads for distilled spirits, but you'll probably hear beer and mixed drink ads. Local radio stations usually write off alcohol advertising as "beverage," and Bonneville doesn't question it, or at least that used to be their policy. When I lived in Dallas about 10 years ago, KZPS and KDGE used to air alcohol ads, and I was told those ads were listed as "beverage" to placate corporate.

St. Louis' Smooth Jazz 106.5 used to run all beer ads. They don't run them on the SLC stations here, though.

How can you lean classic rock and alternative at the same time? I don't think Bonneville will make any big changes to 94.9 until the station has a shot. I mean, it hasn't been on long enough in its current formation to really be judged. No DJs, no real web site, just hired a PD. They will wait and see how things are going.

Has Entercom taken over the Cincinnati properties or are they still running them under the LMA with CBS? Would that possibly mean that 103.5 & 94.9 could go back to their original owners?

I think the only reason people are questioning the future of The Sound is cuz they are a lot edgier than anything else currently in Bonneville's name. Bonneville loves AC's, Talk, and Classic Hits. They seem to intentionally stay away from Hip Hop, CHR, and Rock.

How is the Sound edgy? That point is killing me. They play alternative, but it's not nearly as edgy as the vast majority of rock and alternative stations. They play the Goo Goo Dolls for crying out loud! There's no Disturbed or Metallica, and they only play bands like Korn if they do a Perfect 10 playlist. The music is edited when it needs to be, like in the new Fallout Boy song (...this ain't a scene, it's a ____-damned arms race...). And most of all, like someone mentioned before, it's still new, and already showing up in the books if you're able to see some breakdowns. They even snagged a reasonable little part of the female audience in Dayton...for a station that wasn't looking for them.
This station has more buzz about it among non-radio types than anything I have heard in a long time.

More than that, just because the suits in Utah are Morman, why would they come in and tear apart a radio station in Cincinnati because it played the devil's music or whatever? They're in business, and business is best when you give people a product they enjoy.

Ray D Yo - your points are all very correct from my perspective. Yet, if you look at Bonneville's history and current portfolio, you will notice that The Sound would be their "edgiest" offering. Do I think The Sound is edgy? No, not by my standards. However, I'm not affiliated with Bonneville and they may view it differently. Honestly, I believe it would be a huge mistake for them to come in take away The Sound.

Then let's just hope that because they never create stations like the sound, that doesn't mean that they won't run one if it's inherited.

The Sound is one of the more unique stations to hit the FM dial in this market in a long time....especially if they ever follow through on their initial concept of having DJs with a more sophisticated presentation than the derelicts at WEBN. While a little too heavy and younger-skewing for my tastes, I applaud what they are doing with 94.9 and hope that Bonneville gives it a chance. If anything, perhaps Bonneville would be more comfortable with the station if they take away some of the edge and move it in an AAA direction.
