Do you get these stations at night? Part 2

1580 CKDO - no, mess of Californian stations and KKAD splatter. Yes, there is at least one Californian station amongst them: KBLA (at least I remember hearing it a few years back, when it was still Airhead America) and, from time to time, a little bit of het noise off KUNX. I don't recall ever hearing Lebanon, OR amongst it, however, I'm not ruling out the possibility that KGAL may be amongst it all. I also live within relatively close proximity to KKAD's transmitter towers. For the most part, 1580's generally a mess here. [Remember, Vancouver is quite a bit closer to California than Bothell is! ;o)]

From Kilgore/Longview TX

680 KNBR: No
690 CINF: No, mostly KGGF in Coffeyville KS.

Long time, and had to dig it out, but doing an update here due to another similar thread being revived...

1130 KWKH-one time in early 2010
1170 KFAQ-maybe twice a year in winter
1580 CKDO-nope, too much KGAL and interference.

Allendale, MI

690 CKGM - Got it last weekend and was quite strong
710 KIRO - Too far east, and WOR dominates

990 CBW - Got it last weekend and it was somewhat listenable
1010 CBR - Too far east, and CFRB dominates
1080 WTIC - Too far west
1090 KAAY - Too far north/east
1130 KWKH - Too far north/east

1580 CKDO - Got it last weekend

Coldwater, MI-

680 KNBR- After years of trying, I confirmed them on 9/15/12 with a local spot and a (925) area code mention. Have not heard them since.
690 CKGM- All the time.
710 KIRO- Never. Too much WOR.
800 XEROK- Maybe once or twice, but I couldn't ID it.
990 CBW- Almost like a local here some nights.
1010 CBR- Too much WMVP splatter as well as CFRB/WINS.
1080 WTIC- Nightly, but very faint and barely below KRLD
1090 KAAY- Nightly under WTAM splatter
1130 KWKH- Faint, but yes. They don't seem as strong as during their country days.
1170 KFAQ- Never at night, always during SRS and SSS.
1580 CKDO- Every night, underneath splatter for my very local WTVB.

From Lexington, KY

680 KNBR -- Have heard this a few times, but not recently
690 CINF -- Never but hear CKGM and New Orleans
710 KIRO -- Never Miami and WOR rule here at night
800 XEROK -- CKLW is here for me at night
990 CBW -- I hear this fairly often, especially early mornings
1010 CBR -- Never...Usually hear WINS mixing with CFRB
1080 WTIC -- Rarely heard. If I do, it's usually pre-sunrise mixing with Louisville.
1090 KAAY -- Heard most nights. Signal strength varies wildly. Mixes with WBAL.
1130 KWKH -- Heard most nights. Signal strength varies wildly. Mixes with WBBR
1170 KFAQ -- Rarely heard, but logged them several times on Day pattern. WWVA is a regular.
1580 CKDO -- Have a local 1580 with 40 watts at night messing up this freq for DX

KR4BD

Southeast suburban Rochester NY:

680 KNBR -- Never (too much QRM from CFTR Toronto, which I suspect never goes to night pattern)
690 CKGM - Like a local, and even audible by day on a good day
710 KIRO -- All WOR and Cuba and, until recently, semi-local CJRN Niagara Falls (now defunct)
800 XEROK -- Have heard this very rarely under CKLW and semi-local CJBQ Belleville ON (a rare south-aiming Canadian AM)
990 CBW -- A frequent late-night visitor, sometimes even under local WDCX before it signs off
1010 CBR -- Very rarely under WINS/CFRB
1080 WTIC -- The usual occupant of 1080 here
1090 KAAY -- Very rarely under WBAL
1130 KWKH -- Rarely, under WBBR/WDFN and sometimes Milwaukee or Minneapolis
1170 KFAQ -- Never; even if WWVA is weak, there's local WHAM on the next channel
1580 CKDO -- Right across the lake; always there, rarely strong

From Ottawa, Ontario.
680 is ALWAYS CFTR. Very strong night, barely there days.
690 CKGM is like a local 24 hours a day with some slight phasing at night.
710 is WOR at night or IBOC.
800, I wish I could hear XEROK. I miss them, as I loved their regional Mexican format. 800 is a mess here with CKLW, CJBQ and CJAD all present in various strength levels.
990 is now CBW all night, used to be CKGM with CBW underneath.
1010 is a mix of CFRB/WINS.
1080 is always WTIC very strong at night
1090 will never have KAAY again...they've shut the station down. It's always been WBAL as long as I've lived here.
1130 is a strong WBBR only.
1170 is a strong WWVA.
1580 is always CKDO...but not a steady signal.

From Portland, Oregon:

680 KNBR Yes
690 CINF No, either CBU Vancouver, BC or XETRA Tijuana or a mix of both.
710 KIRO Yes
800 XEROK No, local KPDQ 24/7
990 CBW Sometimes
1010 CBR Yes
1080 WTIC No, local KFXX 24/7
1090 KAAY No, nulling out KFXX I can usually get XEPRS Rosarito, or KFNQ Seattle or both.
1130 KWKH No, CKWX Vancouver, BC
1170 KFAQ No, usually KPUG Bellingham, WA
1580 CKDO No, KGAL Lebanon, OR

680 KNBR Last heard at least a decade ago. Normally it's KFEQ
690 CINF No
710 KIRO I wish! KEEL doesn't visit here, strongest signals are KGNC and KCMO
800 XEROK Yes, but I also heard CKLW back in November just after sunset.
990 CBW Before KFCD signed on they were semi-regular
1010 CBR No. Before they signed off for good back in the 1990s, KLRA in Little Rock was dominant here.
1080 WTIC I live about 4 miles from KRLD's towers! But when KRLD and WTIC coordinated a DX test about a decade ago I did hear WTIC.
1090 KAAY Before IBOC, a really good radio could get a faint KAAY. But even without IBOC I'm still too close to KRLD
1130 KWKH Yes, but not particularly strong. Best catch on the channel was CKWX.
1170 KFAQ Yes, I miss their country format.
1580 CKDO No, long ago there was a station in South Louisiana, KLOU that dominated 1580 at night. They signed off for good sometime ago.

I read that KAAY will be coming back if it isn't already, with a low powered temporary transmitter until they can get back up and running again.

From El Cajon, CA:

680 KNBR - regular at night. Have heard a few times during the day with a good antenna under the right conditions, provided I could get past local 690 XEWW's splatter.

690 CINF - no, XEWW 24/7

710 KIRO - not so far. KSPN weak daytime, fair-strong critical hours, weak-fair nighttime, sometimes mixing with Spanish

800 XEROK - used to be a nightly regular about the same strength as local XESPN, but now is rare & local walks all over it

990 CBW - no, mix of stations at night. Daytime, XECL Mexicali (91mi E, 5kW ND) is weak but mostly on top. Interestingly enough, with a good radio/antenna, KTMS Santa Barbara (197mi NW, 5kW DA) can be heard under XECL, in spite of sending only 16.75 WATTS(!!) toward me!

1010 CBR - no, mostly a mix of stations at night. Daytime on a radio with good selectivity, XEDX Ensenada has made occasional appearances.

1080 WTIC - no, mostly IBOC hash from 1070 KNX 24/7. At night KRLD used to be a semi-regular before KNX IBOC.

1090 KAAY - no, local XEPRS day and night. I'm on the side of their pattern's lobe (which they use 24/7), and daytime XEPRS is only a few dB stronger than KNX.

1130 KWKH - no, occupied by my closest (6.3mi N) local KSDO. I did catch CKWX within the past couple years one night when KSDO was off the air.

1170 KFAQ - considering how strong local 1170 KCBQ (9.3mi N) is around here, not likely. Even during their ~8+ second pattern change they were using a year ago, I still never heard any trace of KFAQ. (I have heard KLOK San Jose under KCBQ at night occasionally, though.) In spite of their somewhat strong signal, though, KCBQ CAN be nulled fairly well, even on their 50kW daytime rig. (Maybe someone could try for KFAQ from here? ;) )

1580 CKDO - no, KBLA Santa Monica is faint daytime, and KMIK Tempe (a station I frequently listen to) is a blowtorch at night. (On a few occasions when inductively coupling my Tecsuns to the SAT and utility groundwire, KMIK has actually overloaded the radio, in spite of being 300 miles away!)
