Do you go out of your way to listen to anyone on-air in Atlanta?

Since finally getting an iPod six months ago, I'm weaned almost totally from Atlanta radio except for some weekend programming. However, my question now has become, can anyone recommend an FM transmitter device to enable me to listen to the iPod in the car? There are so many mixed reviews that seem based on particular geographic areas. TIA for any experience-based suggestions.

If you have a cassette player I would recommend a cassette adapter over an FM Tx. ATL has too little free space to get a clean signal. And don't count on one that uses 88.1, 88.3, 88.5, and 88.7 only. You'll get WJSP interference on 88.1 and Album 88 on the other three. Be sure you can return any you try.

If you want to try, Radio-Locator.com has a tool to find the "emptiest" frequencies in your zip code. IIRC and FWIW Suwanee is 100.1.

Mara Davis
TRG
A lot of time Neal
and whenever I hear Yvonne Monet on Dave-just can't figure out what or when her time slot is. Randon Weekends?

Al Hardee on WGUN am 1010 "The Good Old Days" on Sundays.. 2 pm til 6 pm.
Great music, and the station is really sounding great. (Although the image liners leave SO MUCH to be desired)..! The Morning Prowl from 7 Til 9 AM with Al, and Greg is also funny REAL morning radio.. Not contrived bits.. Local focus is NO 1 in my book..

I go out of my way to listen to Jamie Dupree and Bill Crane when eithter one (or both) are on WSB-750.

Ditto on Jamie Dupree. Since he's been on Atlanta's Morning News, I've had to wait until his report at about 6:50 before leaving for the gym.

I've always been surprised at Dupree's objectivity in the face of Boortz and even more surprised that Boortz doesn't give him a hard time about it. Dupree is also very knowledgeable.

Gospel Music:
Ray Haynes-weekday afternoons 3PM-7PM on Rock Solid Victory 91.5 WWEV-FM in Cumming (rarely listened)
IBN (Immanuel Broadcasting Network) THE PRAISE FM WCCV 91.7 in Cartersville (rarely listened)
IBN First Light with Neil Hopper weekday mornings 6AM-9AM
IBN Breakthrough with Kevin Anderson (who also hosts Rush Hour (All Request Music Hour) from 4PM-5PM) 9AM-1PM
IBN Middays & Afternoons with Howard Tuten 1PM-4PM
IBN Heart of Worship with Amy Camp 5:15 P.M.-9:00 P.M.
J93.3 WVFJ-FM Manchester-Greenville (site of the transmitter)-Peachtree City (location of the studio)-Atlanta (All noted personalities except Steve Williams (never listened to his Sunday night shift yet)) (rarely listened unless its Joanna Clark's Saturday shift (I may listen to her every other Saturday))
94.9 THE BULL WUBL-FM (I'm aware this is a Country in general station. That means they mix mainstream Country and Country Gospel. They are also an affiliate to The Sounds of Faith with Jim Hutto.) (rarely listened during the week) (I do listen to The Sounds of Faith the 1st & 4th Sundays of the month if there are 4 Sundays in the month. If 5 Sundays, then I listen the 1st & 3rd Sundays of the month.) (The Sounds of Faith plays the best in Classical Worship Gospel, Contemporary Worship Gospel, Gospel Soul (rarely played), Inspirational Gospel, Instrumental Gospel, and Praise & Worship Gospel.)
Jason Pullman & Kristen Gates (I haven't listened to those 2 together yet. I did listen to her when Cledus T. Judd was still here. Then came Kevin (I don't know his last name).) weekdays from 6AM-9AM (I think 9AM is the end time. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong. I never listened to the whole morning show.)
Praise 102.5 FM WPZE Mabelton-East Point (site of the transmitter)-Atlanta (All local DJs: Rhodell Lewis, CoCo Brother, Brian Clay, and the following artists: Gospel Hip-Hop artist Canton Jones & Contemporary Gospel artist Darlene McCoy) (rarely listened except for Jazzspirations Radio with Brian Clay, the best in Gospel Jazz on Sunday afternoons & evenings from 5PM-8PM)
V103 103.3 FM WVEE (only listened for Sunday Morning Praise with Larry Tinsley from 6AM-12PM (12 Noon) on the 3rd Sunday of the month if it's a 4-Sunday month. 5-Sunday month, on the 4th Sunday of the month)
104.7 The FISH WFSH-FM Athens-Atlanta-Loganville (site of the transmitter) (rarely listened to except for Kevin & Taylor in the Morning weekdays from 6AM-10AM (sometimes they'll come in early at 5:30 A.M.), Margaret Cheely's Saturday midday shift usually on from 10AM-2PM, and Heidi Rew if she's doing the Saturday afternoon shift from 2PM-7PM (She & Curt Zehner alternate occasionally) (I've listened to him, he's fine.))
North Georgia Country 106.1 FM WNGC Toccoa-Athens (location of the studio)-Gainesville-Lula (site of the transmitter) (rarely listened to, but any notable talent I listen to off of the station would be Moby in the Morning weekday mornings from 6AM-10AM and George Mason Dixon & Scott Howard (current voice of the Dawgs in both football & men's basketball) weekday afternoons from 2PM-7PM)
Hot 107.9 FM WHTA Hampton-Peachtree City (site of the transmitter)-Atlanta (only listened for CoCo Brother's Sunday show The Spirit of Hip-Hop from 6AM-10AM on the 2nd Sunday of the month)

Conservative News/Talk Radio:
The Morning Drive with Randy Cook weekdays 6AM-9AM on 640 AM WGST (If I'm listening before 7:30 A.M. it's online at wgst.com (where I listen most of the time))
News/Talk 750 AM WSB (All local personalites) (Most listened to Conservative News/Talk radio station since the Downtown Atlanta tornado)
News Talk 920 AM WGKA (rarely listened to except for John Adams Saturday afternoons 12PM (12 Noon)-2PM (some of the time listened to))
NewsTalk AM 1270 WYXC in Cartersville (The only time they have a local personality David Paul who hosts The Wake Up Show is weekday mornings 6AM-9AM; Rarely listened to)

One more thing I failed to mention in my previous post, The Sounds of Faith also plays Opera/Choral Worship Gospel. That is all. Thank you.

The Regular Guys is the only show I will go out of my way for. If I had a real choice I'd listen to something else for news/traffic/weather, but WSB is acceptable.

Once again Neil Millman demonstrates his good taste in music by mentioning the best music program in the history of Atlanta radio:
The Radio Birdman Show on WRAS. So where is Mal Murray these days? Damn him for graduating! The Psychobilly Freakout show gets honorable mention.

Mal is still around, not exactly sure what he's doing, but we chat once in a blue moon.

Thanks for mentioning my old show - I miss it. It would be fun to do something like that on another station. These days I'm on WREK Tuesday nights at 9pm co-hosting a rockabilly/surf show.

Maybe this is the wrong forum to ask, but does anyone know what happened to Denzil the morning traffic guy on Dave FM? He's been taken off the website and hasn't been on all week. It's not that I was particularly fond of him on-air but I did like the energy he brought to morning radio. Just curious.

Same here. I delay my lunch so I can hear Jamie and Boortz. Jamie keeps his cool very well with Boortz and always seems to come across as the smarter of the two.
