I dont mean urban hip hop radio, but do you think stations like Power 96 Miami, B-96 Chicago, Wild 94.9 SF are Ok with sprinkling in some dance from time to time. I like the dance stuff,, but I dont much care for the PoP stuff, and sometimes the rhythmics that play dance will play kiddie pop too, this isnt so with power 96 miami though.

M.W.C. ........This would be a good move, i remember when B96 and the old WHYT (also Power 96) in Detroit had a better Blend of Dance and Rythmic mixed in. Because it seems now that since Most of these stations are more "mainstream" (mostly because of Cooporate Narrow-Mined-Playlist) these stations sound more stale. What does "Wild and Power" orginate from?? Before Coorporate sucked the life out of these stations, you had more P.D's and local talent who would probably bring in their own crates full of 12'inch mixes and cuts and the stations sounded more upbeat and dynamic. Look at what CC did to KXJM(Jammin 107.5) case in point.....they took it over and took out the mixed shows they did at 5 and now it's just the same 30 song playlist, even if these are "Party Hits". You still need either Dance mixed in and or Mix shows period. This is how i would Categorize "Rhythmic/Dance/Hip Hop V.S. Rhythmic/Top 40(which would have more Pop).

Bringing Dance back would Take Rythmic to the next level,...... artist such as La bouche, Crystal Waters, could mix it in with Rhianna's Rude Boy for example. Keep most of the Pop stuff on Hot AC stations such as KALC/Denver and WDVD/Detroit.

I have no problem with hearing Dance or Pop tracks on Rhythmics. I remember how great it was back in the day when you had stations like KPWR and KKFR doing stuff like that, and they weren't the only ones.

However, some of today's Rhythmics do need that type of Dance/Hip-Hop/Pop/R&B balance so they can stay competitive against their Mainstream Top 40/CHRs and Straight-ahead R&B/Hip-Hop rivals because it is the only way for these stations to keep up with what is hot today and cater to what younger listeners are hearing right now.

Uh... in some ways, yes. I personally don't like dance music played on so-called hip-hop stations that hardly play hip-hop. Old-school dance or pop from the 90s is not bad, but today's dance on those stations makes it too mainstream and the song doesn't make sense. I think dance should be on separate stations, pop on one station, and hip-hop/R&B, mainly urban pending on what market it is, as one station. Dance/pop/hip-hop/R&B on one station is too complicated, but works for some stations like KQOD 100.1 in Stockton.

With dance leaning pop songs being so hot now while hip hop is not I can understand why Rhythmics play so many of them. For my personal tastes though I don't care to hear too much of it on rhythmic..even the songs I like,,becuse I can hear them elsewhere. A song like "Tik Tok" is really getting overexposed because you can still hear it often on CHR/Pop. CHR/Rhythmic, and Hot AC.

The thing about WDVD/96.3 in Detroit is that it really keeps itself separate from being a Top 40 station. (There are already 2 1/2 other Top 40 stations in Detroit.) 96.3 is Hot AC which is slightly different. I don't believe 96.3 would play anything hip-hoppy (Rihanna for instance).

In Detroit, I noticed recently that WKQI 95.5 (Channel 9-5-5) played "One More Time" by Daft Punk. It was hilarious because a year or two ago, that station was so focused hip-hop/rhythmic CHR that it would have never dreamed of playing a purely dance song like that from the early '00s. I think this epitomizes a 3-way struggle between 95.5, 98.7, and 106.7 in Detroit. 106.7 used to play more songs like "One More Time" and is moving closer toward Top 40. 98.7 is strictly mainstream CHR. By playing songs like this, maybe 95.5 is trying to be a hybrid of the two or something.

Personally, I love dance music and would love to see more CHR stations mix in dance tracks.

The reason why hip-hop is not popular on the radio these days because of the radio stations. Hip-hop concerts still sellout(Rock the Bells), but these stations are not supporting them and are catering to more of a younger, white and hispanic female audience. Stations that call themselves hip-hop, but play Kesha, Lady Gaga, etc..., they're a joke. But at the same time, hip-hop is losing touch when so-called rappers sell themselves out and act mainstream to get attention. I know it's for the money, but can't respect them if they aren't true to the game and sellout. No wonder record sales are low. Don't care about record sales, but the genre needs to shape up(artists and radio stations).
