Do you honestly believe that WPKL is beating KDKA-FM

I kept wondering how 1200 folks holding a people meter( would you? all the time in your pocket or ladies in your purse) could provide an accurate study as to what is going on. I just looked at the coverage map for WPKL nice station the old WPQR. 3,000 watts of power. the red zone of the signal can't even hit monessen. As an advertiser in pittsburgh. should I shift all of my ad dollars from the 50,000 watts of KDKA FM that's red zone covers
Butler, East Liverpool, Steubenville, all of the mon valley, Armstrong, Westmoreland County. others have suggested on this board that companies are making decisions. firing people based on this system. If I owned a station I would want to know what these people think.. more than just 1200 people. I think I can get a better idea talking to the average joe's and jeans on the street. why they still listen to Jimmy roach. because they were mad he was let go at Y108, or we like mark madden better than kdka-fm.
it boils down to personalities, in the past 20 years I have bought against the ratings and listened to the people. they know why they like wdve in the morning. or the morning show on 96.1. to me looking at a diary can tell me something. does anyone know how far you can be from the speaker that the people meter will detect the station. I am sure some people are going to disagree with what I have said here. so load your cannon I am ready. but it boils down to making the listener happy and getting results for the advertiser.
forget about national accounts.. you have to satisfy the LOCAL advertiser

If my business was located within WPKL's coverage area, and I knew that customers from farther away were not likely to drive a very long distance to do business with me, I wouldn't care about KDKA FM getting my advertising message to people who live too far away to actually buy anything from me.

And, if the kind of people who like the programming on WPKL are more likely to want my products than the people who listen to KDKA-FM, then I'd want the WPKL listeners to hear my ads, not the KDKA-FM listeners.

And if it costs me more to put my message on KDKA-FM than I'll get back in increased sales, but I can make back what I spend to advertise in WPKL and then some, then I'll put my money on WPKL.

One meter left next to a radio, which was playing the Pickle 24/7.

Nice thought, but that meter wouldn't count.

The point remains, however, that their cume is down in the same range as KVE and WLER, which means the time spent listening has to be at least 3 to 4 times that of the other stations. There had to have been a meter or two in a place of business all day where the station was on, the odds of it being anything else are astronomical if you just do the math.

For instance, 104.7, which has probably the highest time spent listening in the market has almost 5 times the cume of the Pickle, but their AQH is not quite 3 times WPKL. That means the time spent listening to the Pickle is significantly higher than 104.7. If you believe that be my guest...

WPKL had an exceptionally good month. Too many PPMs in Fayette County, perhaps? I am certain the
methodology still has some bugs to be worked out.

Between WPKL (and simulcast partner WKPL), WJPA, and WKFB, I count almost five shares going to the
Oldies format. I find that believable, particularly since 3WS has more or less left that audience twisting
in the wind.

Let me clarify. I believe that's what Arbitron says, but I don't believe it to be accurate. If it is, I would be the most surprised person on this board.
