Do you like 98.7 AMP RADIO in DETROIT, MI?

The answer is no. and it isn't because I am a disgruntled Smooth Jazz listener. Or the fact that I would choose 95.5 over AMP. AMP since they have been on the airwaves has done enough to ensure that I will skip their station. First off, the music selection is kinda average(Although I did pop in Saturday and they played One More Time by Daft Punk, quite possibly my favorite song ever), they play the same songs way too much, there is no consistency with the dj's, and the thing I really dislike about AMP? They seem to be ignorant of the fact that we have two full-time Hip-Hop stations in Detroit. Not every Rap song needs to be pounced on by AMP because 'JLB, 107.5, or even 95.5 will get it and play it first. Also, I am just not a fan of being 96.3 with rap, and playing hit music that people aren't interested in. And now, they too seem to be on the "reach back into the early 2000's-late 90's hits" bandwagon. This station gets tons of promotion being apart of CBS Radio, and the ratings don't seem to be there. At this point, I think AMP exsists to keep 95.5 from jumping to #1 or top 5.

98.7 Amp radio is cool not as lame as 92.5 kiss fm but it would be nice if 98.7 went rhythmic ac. I know 2 different market's but still!

I like Amp because it keeps 89x's demo numbers very high, since it has swiped a bit of shares from 955 and 963. Everything else about Amp sucks. I'll take 955 over Amp any day.

I hate Amp personally. They are falling apart to. They may have a semi-okay morning show now, but every DJ is beginning to leave. Grooves is gone, Big Boys gone, their former morning host is gone. Now they have Roxanne and Stylz, both who I don't find funny or interesting to listen to. Buck and Coop in the mornings are okay, but I feel like they are a Mojo in the morning rip-off.

The music they play on Amp is even limited. I know 955 replays a lot of the same music but they atleast include more hip hop in the playlist.

As for Amps ratings their 3.5 last month is a huge surprise to me. But they can't keep the consistency in the ratings ever. June they are opt to come in with a 2.8 rating again.

98.7 AMP RADIO ratings increased in the MAY 2012 ratings, so 98.7 AMP must be doing something right, even though the majority of you who posted stated negative comments about 98.7 AMP. 98.7 AMP is now just behind CHANNEL 955 in the MAY 2012 arbitron ratings.

I don't, but I don't really like 95.5 either. Nothing but rhythmic music gets tiresome after a while. (Nothing but white bread pop-rock also gets tiresome, especially with as few currents as WDVD plays.)

I had high hopes for AMP Radio when they first started and had the sweet spot between 95.5 and 96.3 nailed. Then they drifted into being a somewhat safer 95.5 clone. 98.7 still lags behind 95.5 in adding new music, even in the rhythmic genre. If this were 20 years ago, 95.5 would be 96.3FM and 98.7 would be 99.5 The Fox.

98.7 amp radio is not bad but at time's can be boring it would be nice if 98.7 sounded more like B96.

No, I don't, and I don't like Channel 955 or 96.3 WDVD either. 95.5 is too rhythmic, 96.3 is too girly, and 98.7, well, I don't care much for.

Besides, they all play the exact same songs over and over again for several months.

And what would 96.3 be 20 years ago?

98.7's on-air staff is practically falling apart now. So many of their regulars have left these past few months. They lost Grooves,Big Boy,Stylz, and Puddin.

Left now is Buck & Coop along with Roxanne. They are missing a regular 3-7,7-11, and overnight show. And personally Buck & Coop are an okay morning show, but certainly do not rank near the top in Detroit. Roxanne just doesn't fit with the station, I would picture her on a country station.

So AMP is really just falling apart. I can't wait to see how Junes ratings go.

98.7 AMP RADIO got a very strong signal, transmitting 50,000 watts of power on 98.7 MHz from the west side of DETROIT.

Congrats to AMP for showing some life in the CHR battle. Now back to reality. One; in spite of their nice run, they are still behind 95.5, and the real kicker, 96.3 leads both stations in the ratings, although 95.5 has a higher cume audience than both individual stations. Also, they have a decent rating, but overall, the station doesn't seem that impressive to me. They have no recognizable personalities. I have always hated the music selection, and I just am not a fan of competing with a station, making promos that have little digs at the other station, but you basically copy that station and also, I do not like the fact that they try to be three different radio stations in one. I honestly think that if they could play country crossovers-besides Taylor Swift-and CBS wouldn't think it would pull listeners from their Country giant WYCD, They would play Country. AMP needs several months of consistent ratings superiority over 95.5 before they are taken seriously to be honest.

The closest 1992 equivalent I can think of to today's 96.3 would probably be Q95.5. Does anyone agree or disagree with that?

Kenny Valentino and No Sleep still work at 98.7 AMP RADIO.
