Do you think a KTU type of station would work in LA?

I was looking at the ratings for New york. KTU is billing 3rd place. Do you see Superestrella switching formats to this type of station?

I think what KTU is doing now was what KMVN (in its first year) wanted to do. But since they didn't stick with it, it must have not been successful. KSSE would most likely flip to a Spanish format if it did flip.

I'm listening to KTU, I gotta say, its pretty impressive, they play alot of currents, top40, dance, and old school music.
Movin was more of an jammin oldies format at the end.

Signal is not competitive for general market.

Entravision would be totally out of their league if they tried it. They have no one with any expertise in the KTU format. They are struggling enough as a Spanish language CHR because of a lack of focused direction over a 2-3 year period. I agree that they are ripe for a flip but to another SPanish language format

I listen to KTU on my Iphone & I gotta admit it's a very impressive format. They play everything from the new current stuff by the likes of Pitbull, Flo Rida , Lady Gaga all the way to the Guru Josh Project / Klass - Infinity 2009 to expose, Stevie B, TKA. Etc..

It would be nice to have a station like that in LA. I think the ratings could be very very good also but they would have to stick to the format & give it some time to evolve not just change formats really fast like Movin 93.9 FM did. That's where I think Movi. 93.9 really messed up. No pun intended but I think it was a mistake for them to have hired Uptown Ricky from the old Mega 100 station to program it.

He already drove Mega 100 down & he did the same to Movin 93.9 when the station first started it was on point and sounded fantastic.

That's just my opinion.

Seems to me a KTU type station ("Rhythmic Hot AC?") would work here if done correctly. The question is, "Who should give it a try?" Emmis tried with Movin' but couldn't execute. Clear Channel and CBS would not want to risk canibalizing KIIS and KAMP with a KTU format. I think that leaves it up to SBS. KXOL seems to be struggling with it's latin hip-hop lately so maybe a flip, or evolution, to a KTU format would work for them. And, 96.3 is a good signal.

This is what KBIG was doing more or less before it was relieved of its rhythm and ethnicity a few years back...

KBIG Did not sound anything like WKTU does. KTU is a lot more up to date while at the same not too far out of date with there older music.

I never heard Pajama Party - Yo No Se on KBIG

Not only do I think it should be tried in LA, but why not other markets as well? When WPGC changed its format in 1987 to what might've been called Urban/CH, they played quite a bit of 'dance music' then. What I thought was the best example of an "urban" or more appropriately a Dance/CH was when what was WGHT "Hot 95.9" (just outside Baltimore) was doing the format. Sadly they lasted only about a year or two. :(
