Doc Thompson gets "Darwin Award"

Just heard Doc Thompson claiming how the "heat index" and "wind chill factor" are a scam, concocted by alarmist meteorologists...

Hey Doc, there's something called "Relative Humidity" that is a big factor on a hot day... Perhaps you need to take a few science classes. I was hoping that Frank Marzulo would call in to set him straight. One of Doc's hillbilly listeners claimed that "wind chill is bogus because the wind is never constant"... ::)

Doc is most likely a graduate of "night school at city college... 1-800-GET YOUR DEGREE"

I find it a little odd that Doc is always on with Jim Scott promoting his show towards the end of Scott's show each morning. Are his ratings really that bad?

Do you think that Doc believes this, or is this LW's idea of entertaining its core audience? I wonder why the station thinks so little of both their advertisers and listeners to allow this dribble on its airwaves? No wonder they are no longer the lone station in 1st place and now tied with B105 for the first time since 1999.

When Mike McConnell worked for WLW, I thought he would also appear on the last few minutes of Jim Scott's show. I admit I can't remember for sure.

This isn't a new thing, talk-show hosts have always been entitled to their own facts. The scary thing is more and more people think they're true.

And here I thought "heat index" and "wind chill factor" were ways to rate chicks in bars. Sure glad I have WLW to help me sort this stuff out!

And you fell for it - Hook, line, and sinker.

Congrats, you're the latest sucker.

Honestly, are mattsledge and I the only ones who know the difference between a talk show and a news program? You all fall for this stuff every time, bitch about it, and then keep listening. Why????

Never ending desire to complain about all things CC, with heavy emphasis on the local CC owned stations.

I worked for a major network for many years, at an O&O N/T AM station. We had high standards. Our hosts did not have to "dummy up" their subject matter to keep the audience's attention. One of these hosts later became Doc Thompson's boss. It amazes me what passes for "acceptable" these days, while we all opine about the decline of broadcasting.

But hey, i wouldn't want to get in the way of drones like "mattsledge" making a witty post on a message board.

Exactly, Imagine if the board was run by Clear Channel,Cox, or any of the broadcast companies. Do you think they would allow anything opinionated to be posted? I doubt it. The decline continues and so will the so called negative posts.

I'm hardly a "drone". I know what to expect out of WLW: Not much. It's all entertainment, and ratings and revenue.

Go ahead pine for the old days. They aren't coming back.

They definitely aren't coming back, but it's still a shame that the majority of what WLW does is so tongue-in-cheek. There continue to be successful stations in large and major markets that don't have to rely on such dumbed down programming to get good ratings. While I find the WJR's, KDKA's, KMOX's, etc., a little stodgy for my tastes, WLW swings too far in the other direction. Yes, they are more entertaining than those old line News/Talkers, but they are beginning to remind me of the stupid class clown who never takes anything seriously. At first he's funny, but after a while his act gets old.
