Does An Arena Debate In Hartford Affect MSG Network?

Currently, there's a debate in Hartford as to an investment group wanting to bring a new arena to Hartford and to potentially bring the NHL back to Hartford. This ties to New York City becuase the Rangers' AHL affiliate is the Hartford Wolpack. Madison Square Garden manages the operations at the Hartford Civic Center. MSG Network has aired a Wolfpack game or two in the past. In other words, will the "Blue Shirts" ever make that trek up I-95 to I-91 again like they did in the past? Interesting stuff! :)
______________

My guess is that if Hartford ever gets an NHL team again (which I think is very unlikely), cable systems in the Hartford area that carry MSG Network would have to black-out New York Rangers' games appearing on the network.

Of course, if MSG is on cable throughout Connecticut, and Hartford gets another NHL team, MSG could conceivably get the TV rights to the team, and show the Hartford Whalers Version 2.0 in the Nutmeg State instead of the Broadway Blueshirts. MSG is on cable in the Buffalo and Rochester areas, but in those areas, MSG viewers get Buffalo Sabres' games (for which MSG now owns the rights following the collapse of Empire Sports) and not the New York Rangers.

But I doubt Hartford will get another NHL team. The only teams in Connecticut that sports fans seem to care about are the men's and women's basketball teams of the University of Connecticut.

It would be nice for the New Britain Rock Cats (AA-Eastern League affiliate of the Minnesota Twins) to get better advertising and radio station to cover their games. Their home games were carried the last few years by WDRC-AM 1360 of Hartford (which is so-so at New Britain Stadium at night) and WMMW-AM 1470 of Meriden. Problem with that is that there were a few games that WDRC-AM didn't carry. WMMW-AM carried every game, but their signal here in New Britain's south end is quite weak, both at the Stadium and my place, which is about a 15-minute walk away.

They did end up having 2 or 3 games get televised last season by CN-8 (operated by Comcast) and the 2003 Eastern League All-Star Game was carried on at least two channels.

It'd be nice to have the games on WPOP-AM 1410 of Hartford, a.k.a ESPN Radio 1410. However, with the Yankees commitments, that'll never happen.
______________
