You never know what they're looking for. One guy says you talk too much, the other not enough. One thing for sure local topical content is always good.
Hey at least you got an answer! You might try asking him if you can come up and do an audition tape for the job. Then come up, listen to the station write down the live promos they do, carefully rewrite them to fit your style and scan the newspaper for local content before you audition. Do something on NASCAR or the next country artist coming to town. The worst thing he can say is no. If you can convince him you'll go the extra mile to get the job he just might hire you. Don't take no for an answer.
Country is an adult format still playing new hits. The artists are more approachable and still alive! You can get old in the format and still keep your job, unlike top 40 where you age out of the demo. Edd Robinson is still working in Country radio at WFMX and he's got to be in his mid-60's! I'm sure he has a ton of loyal listeners from his days at WAME and WSOC-FM.
Just some thoughts running through my mind. Heck I should follow my own advice!
