Does anybody else find Meghan Trainor horribly annoying?

Her "baby" voice, her irritating lyrics aimed at teens, and her "look at me" attitude make me switch the station when she comes on and even reset presets so I don't have to hear her. Anyone else agree?

She is the perfect artist for the for the teen and soccer mom group. Mass appeal. For the grown folks, she is this generations Leslie Gore.

I would agree, you are probably not the target demo.

Leslie Gore was an adult, even early in her career when she was 17ish and catering to that market.

Meghan Trainor sounds like a 12 year old, and her songs end up as commercials for toddler products. She needs a lot of seasoningn if she wants a long career.

Megan Trainor is 22.

You guys just don't get it. Her music is about personal empowerment. It's connected with millions of women who will be fans of hers for life.

She's also written hits for others, and is an in-demand writer around the world. She doesn't need any help or advice from men.

Perhaps that's what some find annoying.

No, that's not it. It's the music...

While I do like one of her songs, I can't stand anything else she does. The Big A is correct that I'm not in her target demo, but, if she really does expect all of that out of her future husband, she's going to be single for a long time regardless of how much money she makes!

She's Shania Twain for Gen Y. THIS is why she's so popular with her fans:

Dear future husband,
Here's a few things
You'll need to know if you wanna be
My one and only all my life
Dear future husband,
If you wanna get that special loving
Tell me I'm beautiful each and every night
Future husband, better love me right

She also demands pretty much all of his time outside of work and every penny from his paycheck that Uncle Sam doesn't take while she offers far less in return. That's a high maintenance broad if there ever were one.

I was happy my wife, who's several years younger than I am and square in her target demo, said, "No way would I want that song played at our wedding. It's nothing but a list of demands!" Yeah, I'll keep her. Meghan can keep looking!

Once again, armchair quarterbacks who know nothing about how the demographics game works. The proof is not personal opinion. It is the sales and results. In short, (for now) Trainor is marketing gold.

I once knew a medium market operator who said all the music his station played..sucked! However, he was #1 in revenue and ratings. He was smart enough to know his personal opinion didn't matter.

Actually, the song is a fantasy -- like most pop songs. Nothing but fantasy.

The words quoted above (and I think I've heard the song maybe once, so I don't remember much of it) -- they're just fantasy.

Fantasy sells.

Any women in this thread? I didn't think so.

Nope, just radio geek guys, all out of the demo. Kids today ... grumble-grumble ... if they'd only realize that the only popular music that isn't crap was made by their grandpa's generation ... grumble-grumble ... I bet none of them are really listening to that current crap, because MY 16-YEAR-OLD GRANDDAUGHTER AND HER FRIEND love the Beatles ... Trainor can't even sing, it's all Auto-Tune ... grumble-grumble ... Nielsen just gives the big radio corporations the numbers they want to see ... grumble-grumble ... Some of today's pop isn't too bad, but they ought to play deeper tracks and expand the playlists to at least 1,000 songs ... grumble-grumble ...

None of Carole King's songs were ever turned into a diaper commercial, unlike Ms. Trainor's. I'm sure she was crying all the way to the bank after it was made, but that shows a lot about the quality of her songs right now.

She seems like a nice young lady, and hopefully her songs will get better over time, but as of now she's no Carole King, who's songs were rather simplistic in her early years as well -- The Locomotion comes to mind immediately.
