Does anybody remember 97.9 The HAWK?

Does anybody remember a Tri-Cities station called 97.9 FM The HAWK? It was in the Tri-Cities area from 1997 to 2003 and it later got switched to COOL FM

If so what were your thoughts on that station? Me I thought it was a breath of fresh air cause they were playing alot of songs that wasn't getting played to death on the other stations and I've discovered alot of great 1970s songs on that station, I sure miss that station and it brings me back alot of great memories.

For the first couple years it was a classis rock/classic hit station that played a wide diversity of music from the 1960s (British Invasion era) to the 1980s and it was everything from classic rock, oldies and light rock all in one package, then a couple years later it became a classic rock station.

It never did anything for me. Processing and compression I always thought was obnoxious.

On the business side it was clearchannel's competition to Eagle 106.5. In hindsight, it was a way to try to split off say 25% of KEGX's audience just to weaken the dominant classic rocker. So New Northwest (or was it still Citadel then?) would be denied the 2nd or 3rd position in the market with that stick.

Of course I'm old enough to remember BEFORE the Tri-Cities had a classic rocker and the only hope was KHSS 100.9 out of Walla Walla when they did the westwood one AOR feed. Only other option was KATS.

I remember KHSS 100.9FM (KISS 101), that was a really good radio station and I was bummed out that the station went off the air.
