Does Anybody remember when HLN's Jane Velez-Mitchell worked for KCAL9?

I noticed on KCAL9 Jane was more of an Objectionable anchor with Jerry Dunphy at the desk with her before CBS took over KCAL9. I remember Jane doing the news well at KCAL 9

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEKZ6EkRM7M&feature=related

heres the video of Jane Velez-Mitchell in her KCAL9 days.

But I feel HLN producers and directors are just using Jane to act like a Puppet for Grace once HLN hired her to replace Glenn Beck when Beck moved to Fox News. and as usual HLN did it for the money.

I certainly remember her being at Channel 9...she was one of the original anchors of the news there when they made the transition from KHJ-TV to KCAL, back when Disney bought the station.

If I remember correctly, she worked at another local station before going over to Headline News/HLN.

I saw Jane on a TMZ like show called "Celebrity Justice" when Phil Spector was arrested.
Also I heard stuff that Pat Harvey was once on HLN and WGN before coming to KCAL9. David Jackson is the only guy from KHJ-9 who stayed for KCAL9.

Heres a clip of David Jackson reporting from the Cypress Freeway in Oakland in 1989 for KHJ right before it became KCAL9.

I believe Jackson was working for KPIX at the time. He also anchored on the weekends, IIRC.

Thanks for those links, Recto. I was home more in the daytime in those days. People Are Talking on KPIX was a good show. After it was cancelled, Ann Fraser would guest on Alex Bennett's Live 105 radio show. If you recall, Bennett liked stand-up comics as guests on his show, so Ann was a bit of a departure for him. But she was quite a quick wit - better on the radio, than on TV, actually.

Regarding the "Group W" version - remember that KPIX was also owned by Westinghouse (Group W).

Cool links on this thread.

One concept that is interesting to me is that a high profile position on a big-3 market network affiiate can equal a position on a national cable network. I say "equal" because I'm not sure it is better, worse, or the same when it comes to audience totals. The title of the thread brings up the question, as others who have moved from major markets into cable nets. One example: Don Lemon, who was one of the top anchors at WMAQ Chicago, but moved to CNN. Good move or not? In my mind, kind of hard to say.

Don Lemon came to CNN at the same time KNTV San Jose's TJ Holmes, KTVU Sara Sidner and Betty Nguyen came to CNN. But Sara Sidner only exists on CNN international. I do remember KTVU had Dan Spinger in 1998 before he replaced Jon Du Pre on Fox News in 2000 who later moved to KNXV in Phoenix. KTVU had Ted Rolands for a short time in 2001-2003 before he went to CNN.

I Remember that there were clips where Jane Velez-Mitchell worked at WCBS from 1985-1988 and she was with Carlos Amuezcua Long Island Bureau chief of KTTV,and KTLA. Bree Walker of KGTV and KCBS2, Richard Brown of KGO ABC7 and KXLY and Lester Holt of MSNBC and NBC News.

I also saw a Clip of Jane Velez KCAL9 Co-Anchor David Jackson working at KPIX CBS5 in 1982 doing "The Storm of the Century in San Francisco"
with McElhatton, Tokuda who later went to KNBC, KRON and back. Colleen Williams with dual jobs as the Primary anchor at KNBC, and the Los Angeles bureau chief of MSNBC and NBC Nightly News.
David Cruz of KNBC, Joel Bartlett who later went to KGO and Gary Rebstock who later went to KGO in 1985 and KMSP in 1991.

By the way Wendy Tokuda when she went to Los Angeles she was a good anchor when she was with Colleen Williams again in 1993-1996 but she never fit with the LA Market that Williams did.

I say its a bad move for Velez-Mitchell to move to HLN because the Directors and Producers want her to be a Nancy grace Wannabe. I know for sure that Jane was at her best when She was at KCAL9 in the 1990's.

I doubt either Lemmon or Holmes would have left comortable jobs in big markets unless they were getting more money from CNN. Not to mention the chance at national exposure.
