Does anyone at Entercom understand....

Listen to the clip on SaveWRKO and you'll hear that even without the quip, it's really bad radio. Can anyone take Finneran's guffawing and the whole inanity of it? Try Rush Radio with Jeff Katz; as for Finneran...yikes.
Care to guess if he will be punished as much as Howie was? Howie is their meal ticket and Finneran's ratings are probably in the toilet, but they probably LOVE Tom....

Has Entercom renewed Finneran's contract? Wasn't there quite a bit of buzz here a month or more ago about the inevitability of his not being re-signed (given his putrid ratings and all)? You don't suppose that Entercom had intended to sign Jeff Katz for AM drive on WRKO but then CCU scooped him up, leaving Entercom without a Plan B? I'll give Katz this much: he has a better radio voice than Finneran has.

I was just asked that on another board--IIRC Finneran was hired in Jan of '07 (it was something like the hiring was 1/12/07 and he was to start exactly a month later) and the orig. contract was for 2 years. Last year he was re-upped for another year which brings us up to this past Feb.; if his contract was renewed again there was no news of it in the media. He could be working w/o contract for now?

WRKO btw tried to lure Eagan & Braude to be their morning show but WTKK renewed them.

Agreed on Katz and yes, maybe he could have been plan A, now ditched.

As has been mentioned before (a couple good posts on Dan Kennedy's blog), WRKO has to be making less
money these days--that contract they gave Howie to match Greater's deal worked fine a couple yrs back
(set to expire in fall of 2012) but now they are running more than a few PSAs in lieu of commercial spots
(bad economy)
It was mentioned they have to be able to charge a certain rate to pay Howie and then make a profit.
They just saved $17k with Carr's suspension (not sure how much they'd save if Finneran and Cooksey
were to get similar punishment--not sure if they would punish Feinburg but who knows)

Strange that when Carr got suspended the Globe immediately picked up on it while the Herald took a few days, but yet when non-Herald employee Finneran gets in hot water (and without any actual action, ie suspension yet) it's big news in the Herald.
Surely just a coincidence.

Mihos is irrelevant at this point. He might be a nice guy, but as a politician or anything else he is toast.

It appears he needs to put all his focus into his business and personal finances.

He might make an interesting weekend host, but weekend slots are few and far between.

Mrs Mihos is glad he's out of politics (when interviewed)* but he may still do occasional guest shots on
various local conservative shows. Yes he is toast as a politician but could still turn up on air--if he gets
his finances straight, yes.

If he bought time he could do a wknd show

*--(Cape Cod Times:
>> Mihos said moments later that he would not run for office again. "Not with this wife,'' Andrea Mihos said, acknowledging that she had had enough of his political adventures.)

HOSTILE WORK ENVIRONMENT?

Sandy is not a thin woman, but was calling her a whale really good radio?

http://www.bostonherald.com/news/regional/view/20100420tom_finnerans_whale_comment_makes_waves/

It's so much fun watching all the EDS sufferers around here place their feet firmly in their mouths. No one called Sandy a "whale."

Five seconds at WRKO's web site would have provided the reference for the "click on the jumping whale" comment...the Alaskan cruise that Todd Feinburg is going to be hosting. There's an animated graphic of a whale breaking water in the ad, and that's what they were talking about before Cooksey went off on a tangent about Nancy/Sandy. If anyone had bothered to actually LISTEN to the show over the past weeks, they'd also know that Tom & Tood had nicknamed the whale in the ad "Howie"...NOT "Sandy"...a long time ago.

That's what happens when you take snippets of dialog out of context.

Herald is a joke. Howie suspended for one weekand it is a 1 -day story. Does Jessica dig as to what was said? Was Howie sticking up for his producer? Did he call her fat whale? Or lesbo whale? Just do not say fat lesbo.. but whale is fine?

The aptly-named one, thought it may be out of context, do you really expect us to believe that Producer-Boy was laughing his ass off about Felon and Mr. Realclearwrinklecream being "mean" to Carr?

Conspiracy theories are a gas. The current one holds that the Globe reported that Carr was suspended because he is a Herald employee, but gave Finneran a pass. What. A. Crock.

How about this one: Carr made sure a Herald reporter was on to the "whale" remark in order to turn it into a story and get in a shot at Finneran. People take shots at each other on the radio all the time these days and it doesn't get reported. I'd suggest that he also made sure the reporter remembered the DePetro remrak to provide an excuse/context for the Finneran story, even though the DePetro incident also involved dispraging someone's sexual preference, which crosses a line more serious than the weight issue. Doesn't H. Carr make frequent references to the weight of people he writes about?

True but here it can be perceived as hostile work environment or sexual harassment. That's what they're painting it as,
OR consider that Howie was punished for criticism of his station, not just signal or management but saying Finneran's
show is awful and that he should be in jail (for perjury). Here it's "you suspended me but not him?"
Howie got some mileage out of when Deval was on Finneran's show and Tom made a joke about whacking Howie
("we'll go for a ride, three go out but two come back")

Howie wants out. btw Jessica Heslam did a lot of articles about his efforts to leave RKO and he seemed to be passing info to her. I nicknamed her "Howie's press agent"...Depetro was suspended for his "F-- Matt. Wife wears the pants"
comment about the former Pike chief, then fired for calling Grace Ross a "fat lesbian". (Strange bedfellows: When
Howie heard Ross was running against Deval for the Dem nomination, Howie said he'd take a Dem ballot and vote for her!). Some have said, well, Ross is fat and she is a lesbian so why was he kicked off? It probably was the way he said it plus as said above, the sexual orientation deal may cross the line. Howie of course has played THAT card a number of times, and I do note you no longer hear the "Scondras cough"...By the way I understand WRKO's sponsors were upset about Depetro's comment including Harvard Pilgrim,
whose chairman is currently the suggested GOP nominee for governor (he has been endorsed by the party
but there has been no primary yet), Charlie Baker. Baker is getting some heat from social conservatives
(not me, I'm a social lib/moderate) for his choice of a running mate who is openly gay. (I have no problem with
Tisei because of his sexual orientation, but some do.)

Sponsor pressure could have been a factor in Depetro's sacking...(btw I don't know if this is true but someone
on SaveWRKO claims Giant Glass pulled their ads from WRKO to protest Howie's suspension)

Not going too far off topic here, but as for Bakers choice for Lt Gov, he was never "openly gay", he just never discussed his sexuality in public.

It was no secret to those who know him, and I have known Richard since his days on the Town of Wakefield's Board of Selectmen, that he is gay. (full disclosure I have donated both time and money to his campaigns including Stater Rep and Senate, and will continue to support him as a candidate and friend). Richard never discussed it, nobody ever asked about it, and that's the way it should be. (This is the Libertarian side of me, what 2,3,4,or 50 people do in the privacy of their bedroom is none of my business!)

Richard outed himself in a Globe interview last year IIRC by saying it was no secret that he was gay. He has NEVER made it an issue that I know of, he just answered the reporters question. He has always kept his personal life and his business ventures outside of public service private.

Openly Gay while serving in government was Dan Grabauskas, a friend of Richards, who got his start in government working as an aide to Richard way way back in the day. Mitchell Adams, the former Revenue Czar was openly gay too.

Agreed about Tisei not discussing it in public; but he did indeed disclose it in the Globe when the ticket was announced.

>>This is the Libertarian side of me

me too, while I can call myself conservative I am libertarian in many ways. He did talk to Howie about it on
air when Howie asked him if it would be an issue, etc You're right about the two pols you mentioned;
also Jane Swift made former Melrose mayor Patrick Guerrero, who is gay, her running mate when she ran
for election but dropped her campaign due to low poll numbers and Romney announced his run. (Swift
was Acting Governor only; she was not elected as gov. but served out the rest of Cellucci's term)

By the way in this state the Lt Gov takes over as Acting Gov when the gov leaves (early), dies, or becomes
incapacitated, etc. It would have been an interesting situation; had Swift left office early, I believe she
had no official Lt Gov so who would have taken over? (In some states, and I know we're even more off
track here, a Lt Gov can be of a diff. party than the gov....in VT one morning, Richard Snelling-R didn't
show up for his usual breakfast at a restaurant...he was found dead in his home. The Lt Gov at the
time took over, and it meant a switch in parties for the head of VT, as Howard Dean--yes him--
was and is a Dem.)

Loooooooooooved Cookey's racial cuts this mornin'........................NOT!

At this rate we'll have The "Roy Masters & Brother Stair....In Da Mornin' " Show by Monday! ....yeah I know....an improvement!...... You're Right!

Sec. of state Bill Galvin is next in line after acting Gov in Mass
