Does anyone get The Texas Channel? Time Warner Cable

And if so, can record a couple games for me on either DVD or VHS? Let me know if you can help me out and we can discuss compensation.

I've got it on my TWC sub. I do not own a VCR or DVD recorder. I watch TWC using a SiliconDust HDHomeRun with Windows Media Center. I could record it and try to get around the copy once flag, unless the channel is not flagged at all. I'll check and report back. Depending on how big it is, I could keep it in its original format or convert it to another format. My internet is 35Mbps symmetrical both ways so you could probably just download it from me :) Let us know the date and time and I can schedule the recording.

I don't think you do. I haven't hear of Longhorn Channel signing with Time Warner or any major provider.

Different channel. The Texas Network is TWC's regional sports channel for North Texas.

Oops. You said Texas and I immediately thought Longhorns. That's going to give the Longhorn Channel an additional headache when it has to deal with viewers confusiing it with the Texas Channel.

Perhaps my guide info is wrong. It says there is a soccer game from 7-9pm on Saturday the 12th. 9pm-2am is full of 30 min shows like "BETA Records", "Music Mix USA", "Babe Winklemen", etc.

sorry this is late. I recorded the game but I can't figure out how to get around the copy once flag that TWC puts on most of it's content. If I can break it, I can share it with you.

Another thread recently mentioned a device by Sima called the CopyThis, which removes Macrovision from an analog (composite video) signal so it can be recorded. You might try Googling for it. But it's been hard to find since Macrovision sued Sima and the two reached a settlement pending appeal (https://www.eff.org/cases/macrovision-v-sima).

I no longer own a VCR and have never owned a DVD recorder :) Long story short, the recording is a file sitting on my PC. I can watch it on my PC or any of my media extenders (xbox 360's). If I record a program from FiOS, there are no copy flags. I could convert the file to many formats and distribute it in many ways. Content from TWC has a copy-once flag.

JHB, I thought you had a HDHomeRun OTA unit?

Not an HDHomeRun. I have the Channel Master CM-7000PAL (which is really a rebranded Echostar) OTA DVR. (I also have Dish Network satellite service but, the DVR is OTA only.)

If the recording is on your PC it's probably encrypted with some DRM scheme. Your best hope is probably to play the recording in full-screen mode and re-record it with a video camera aimed at the monitor :p Resulting PQ won't be great but it's either that or lend out your PC :(

Unlikely, but even if uploading the file worked, I doubt a public file-sharing site would accept anything that might infringe someone's copyright.

Since The Texas Channel is on TWC, and TWC sets the copy-once flag, it seems the only ways to record a show for someone else's use would be either to make an analog recording (stripping Macrovision if necessary), or for the OP to lend a laptop to someone with TWC. The file would have to be played back on the same device that recorded it.

DRM sucks, but that's the world we live in.
