Does anyone know how much longer the contract for Curtis is?

It seems patently unfair for Curtis to have to wake up at 3am to do a one-hour program at 5am before signing off. Plus it doesn't make sense that Phil Boyce would hold Curtis to his contract leaving on-air a disgruntled host who apparently has been taking shots at his replacement for quite awhile now. I've been listening off and on but according to the New York Radio Message Board Curtis has been slinging vitriol at Imus now for several weeks. I remember how on the TV show L&O Dick Wolf tends to release actors from their contracts if they so desire under the philosophy that it doesn't benefit the show if one of his cast members is unhappy. They have three solutions to the problem Boyce faces. Have George Weber do the 5-6 hour himself doing a straight news hour with no commentary, have Curtis do the hour himself but let him voice-track the show the previous night unless something major happens overnight rendering his pre-recorded material outdated, or ask Saturday host Mark Simone to take over and do the 5-6 hour. Simone is a pro and since he is completely unaffected by Imus he can do a professional job without directing veiled barbs at the new morning host.

Maybe Curtis is trying to get released from his contract?

And what happened to that plan about Curtis joining John Gambling for middays?

At any rate, don't be surprised if, somewhere down the road, Curtis and Kuby are reunited mornings on WFAN.

Very easy...he wants out so that they can "try" and take Curtis and Kuby elsewhere....they don't want to let him go to prevent him from "trying" to take Curtis and Kuby elsewhere

I wouldn't be surprised.

I doubt if John Gambling is turning cart-wheels at the thought being stuck with Sliwa as a co-host. Boyce was lucky to get or develop the right chemistry with Sliwa and Ron Kuby. Listening to the two of them separately, I can't see them together. Heck, the on-air chemistry wasn't that great between Sliwa and the woman he was married to at the time. If Gambling has any clout at the station, I imagine he has quashed the whole idea of sharing his show with Sliwa. I think it might be more likely that Boyce, the apostle of syndicated talk radio, dumps them both and brings in Glenn Beck.

It's unfair to make Curtis get up early. That's radio.

The Gambling Show, I believe, brings in big bucks with lots of live reads. It's all about the money so I don't think his show will go away anytime soon. I think Curtis wants nothing but a morning show so I wouldn't be surprised if he said no to a Sliwa/Gambling Show. That would have been a train wreck...especially with an hour and 45 minute show!

And to think, Curtis and Lisa Sliwa (his ex) were the previous occupants of WABC's morning drive slot! I agree with the previous poster - Curtis can't picture doing anything other than morning drive, and deep inside, he'd want nothing more than to compete with Imus - not to mention Kuby (remember that "I have to put food on the table, too" line?)...

By the way, if Gambling does get the heave-ho... where's Mayor Bloomberg gonna go? Gee, there's gotta be another station on the AM dial that he can call home...

Duh... how about the one he owns.

I do not think Gambling is going anywhere. Curtis doesn't want that shift and after the way he's been acting and the trouble he's caused management, he may no longer be the favored son. One bad boy at a time may be enough for WABC.

The Gambling Show bills well and in the new Citadel World that is what matters.
