Does anyone know what happened to Jim Bohanon?

Bohannon was back on-air last night. I was kind of in and out of the room with the radio, so didn't hear anything mentioned about his absence, etc.

Is there any update on where Bohanon is? His social media still hasn’t been updated since April.

I don’t think he has many affiliates in the southeast these days. I can’t think of any affiliates off the top of my head, at least prominent ones.
Couldn't find an affiliate list, but I'm in the southeast and listen on WPTF 680 in Raleigh. Though not as prominent as WPTF, WTKF 107.1 in Morehead City--on the coast three hours from Raleigh-- airs his show as well.

He has a few fairly prominent stations on his affiliate list. Bohannon is the only syndicated show carried on WGN Chicago and KNWN-AM-FM Seattle. They both delay it for overnight broadcast.

I think a lot of stations run it figuring it's more about authors and interviews, not so much about far right wing politics. But over the years, he's been moving more to the right (maybe as a reaction to the rest of Talk Radio syndicated shows). And certainly his fill in has been doing lots of right-wing politics. Maybe WGN and KNWN added him to stay middle of the road, even though that's not how it's working out.

There’s little these days in terms of non-partisan talk shows. Ramsey isn’t political but after listening for an hour you can tell he leans to the right. A lot of stations used to carry Dr. Laura due to the nature of her show being non-political. I feel like there were more in the past but I’m forgetting. John Batchelor was another one.

I don't recall Dennis Miller being overly political.. I mean I think he was a bit, but nothing like what you hear on radio today.. I enjoyed his show.

Heard him back on the air tonight. If he made any mention of why he was gone so long, I missed it. Something is different about the way he speaks; he sounds like he's breathing in through his nose and then makes a sort of noise with his tongue against his teeth. His breathing sounds slightly loud or labored and something is going on with his mouth. Perhaps the after-effects of a bad case of covid or maybe some dental work? Who knows.

Are you kidding me? Dennis Miller has been extreme right for years. He was spouting crazy-town talk long before right-wing talk was a thing.

When i board opped his talk show on 2009 for an AM station, i dont remember it being full of yelling hateful political talk.

Have to agree with Kelly here- yelling? not so much. Far-right? Very much so.

It's too bad. He used to be so very funny- saw him live a couple times in the 90s and an absolute riot. I don't know if he is a true believer or just playing the game. Hard to say with any of these clowns. I am not even sure Rush was ever a true believer in his nonsense, but he certainly was good at his job.

I've wondered that, too. The Dennis Miller of the 90's seemed different from the Dennis Miller of 20 years ago to the present. We have no way of knowing which, if either, was the real Dennis.

I am not even sure Rush was ever a true believer in his nonsense, but he certainly was good at his job.

Rush was definitely conservative and comes from a long line of conservative politicians in his family. The Cape Girardeau County Courthouse is named for his grandfather, and his brother has been an elected prosecutor and served on the Missouri Supreme Court. We can't determine if Rush really believed everything he spewed, but it wasn't a big jump from his actual personal beliefs. He definitely came by it honestly.

I'm glad Bohannon is alright but I much prefer Rich Valdes in that slot.

Before he left the air, Bohannon had become very belligerent with the callers, and even the guests he interviewed. He would frequently belittle them. Maybe it was due to his health issues and perhaps that will change if he's feeling better.

But Valdes has a good rapport with callers and guests. He's smart, informed, and sounds like a contemporary talker, not someone from the 1970s.

Sad to say, but that's reality.

From Barrett Media:

Jim Bohannon Retiring Friday

The Jim Bohannon Show will come to an end Friday evening.

Bohannon has battled undisclosed health problems this year, and made the decision to end his show. Rich Valdes will take over the 10:00 PM-1:00 AM timeslot for Westwood One.

His show will end Friday, October 14, 2022.

Jim used to do regular "hits" with affiliates that they used as part of their morning show. We would feed Jim out on an avaiable satellite channel and the station would provide IFB via phone.

I absolute would recommend listening to Michael’s interview. It is incredibly powerful and sobering, and Jim’s disposition throughout is admirable.

Even though Jim retired last week, I noticed Rich Valdes identify the show last night as “The Jim Bohannon Show”, and WW1’s website still shows Jim as host. It’s not hard to see why… this feels more like Gil Gross “taking over” for Paul Harvey News and Comment after his death for only two weeks before Citadel sunset the program entirely.

I noticed that too. I suspect it has something to do with advertising contracts being signed specifically for "The Jim Bohannon Show."

OTOH, Bernard McGuirk passed away more than a week ago, yet WABC's website still shows "Bernie and Sid in the Morning" as the morning show. Also I heard a promo for Bernie and Sid on Larry Kudlow's Saturday show.

I hope there's some logical reason for all this, but I fear that radio management these days is not really focused on content, especially online.
