Most of you don't understand the life and persona of a radio DJ is much like a Movie Star. People expect you to stay in persona on and off the air. Hell your radio station PD expects it. Ditch and Ricker were normal dudes for the most part. They both had hot smoking GF/Wifes at home, and they were both banging rock girls. But alone and in person they could drop the persona and really talk. Ricker actually counseled with the Staff of my Company on marketing techniques, and after that round table discussion, many of my employees were taken a back, at the difference of there pre and post opinions of Michael Ricker.
My knowledge is that Ricker was re-negotiating his contract, and his agent was asking for more than KISW would ever pay. Ricker really wanted to move to a warmer climate like San Diego, or Las Vegas, and my guess is thats where he is now. KISW was paying him less that 6 figures, and he should have been paid more than 6 figures.
I imagine the fact that his New Year's Resolution was to stop smoking Bud!
And when I saw him in May he had. He turned 40 in June, and I imagine he just didn't fit the KISW young stoner rocker bit anymore. And in true Seattle fashion they drove out the Number One DJ in the Market for 18 to 51 year old males.
The concoct a story about him using the F@ck word, and suddenly he is gone. It is all B.S.
Unfortunately they lost me too.
I was spending $5000. a month on advertising with KISW, and was planning on doubling that when they re-upped Ricker's contract for another 2 or 3 years. But I am not now. I was planning on opening a huge club in Seattle like the Premier ~ Only Bigger, for the Rockers of Seattle, and Ricker was going to play a big part in it.
But KISW has blown out my two favorite DJ's. And I have lost my flavor for KISW, & and the Seattle Rock Scene. I think San Diego, or Las Vegas, is a better place. Sorry KISW you loose. You should have left the format alone, your sister station The End is for the Kids, The Rock is for the next generation, and Generation X. Quit trying to merge the two. It's bad enough you share the same office space with The Mountain, and The Buzz.

I kind of liked Ricker but there's no way that I'd hand him a deal at anything over 75k per year. Sounds as if Ricker and his agent found out that there were no plans for AM drive in his future at KISW. The guy was lucky to get the PM drive shift as it is. His act was better suited for nights, and he ought to get a rep who can tell him that. Of course there really isn't any money at night....
Seattle is a big market but it still is only a fifth of the size of L.A. and NYC has nearly 30 million within 60 miles of Manhatten. KISW has under 4 million by comparison. Triple figures should be somewhat rare here, except on AMD.
Ricker may have wanted a large market salary without being in a large market. As for the rock scene I won't begrudge it and good luck with the club dreams but people in Seattle spend more money on the latte circuit than those who spend a few bucks for drinks and cover charges.
I guess your buddy at KISW headed for warmer climes and bigger bucks. I can't think of an L.A. gig for Ricker, or any other market, that could get him a lengthy deal at over 100k. He should refine his act, grow up some, seek others (mentors/friends/potential sidekicks) for grooming, get rid of the baggage and use his talent for his own benefit (and not his two-bit agent). If anything the guy should prioritize and set serious goals instead of trying to find a cool herb connection in the next town.
I wouldn't hire the guy unless he sincerely expressed that he was willing to grow, wanted to use his talent, fired his agent and acknowledged that KISW used him...that's right sit down and tell me they screwed you and show me how you want to make them feel sorry about it. And don't ask your buddies to advertise how cool you are...that doesn't help.

You're an idiot. The "F" Bobm story is 100% true. Do you really think that Mikey Ricker wouldn't be sueing the hell out of Entercom if they fired him under false pretences? Not to mention the fact that everyone loved ricker (for some reason) at KISW. This was also Rickys thrid "F" bomb offense and he was not in the middle of signing a new deal. If the dude is to dumb / lazy to edit out swear words in the pre-recorded calls he does, than "F" him!
and by the way... there's audio out there on the old internet of the actuall offense from a few weeks ago. I'm glad you liked Ricker so much... but don't be a moron and comment on stuff that you are ignorant too.
