Wait a minute, Boss.
You can give us references to conversations John Cigna had 25 years ago about Dave Parker's bunting ability, but you don't remember that Stan Savran had a successful 8-9 talk show throughout the eighties, into the 90s, and even the early part of this decade on 1250?
Furthermore, Cope (and Bruce Keidan, for that matter) did their show from 6-9 after Savran was fired (wrongfully) in 1991.
That's nitpicking, but the fact Pirates start times did shift from 7:35 to 7:05 during the Jim Leyland era, when Cope-Keidan was still on the air and ruling local sports talk airwaves, is not.
WEAE has gone back to sports talk from 7-9 with Tim Benz, Ken Laird, and I believe even Joe Starkey in recent years.
Even Von Benko's show served a need in that time slot. Without a post-game call-in show and a host who knew nothing about baseball coming on after the Pirates on KDKA during that era, his was effectively the place you went to to talk about the game afterwards.
I understand what you're saying, but there's tons of precedence for sports talk in this time slot.
