It seems everyone is doing it.Bounce would be a nice fit on WLNE.There's a 24/7 movie channel available.Country music video channel.They could re launch RTV on 6.2.

Does anyone know why WLNE is not carrying a sub channel?

The reason there is no subchannel on WLNE could be likely due to its financial situation. The station was in bankruptcy reorganization two years ago (I'm not sure if it still is), and the new owners - Citadel Communications - are rebuilding the station, and have made changes. So in the future they could add a subchannel. I would also add Antenna TV (which is not in the Boston market as well as the Providence market) as a possible subchannel, too.
A number of months ago I saw WLNE testing a 6.2, but then it was gone.

RTV, CoolTV, Country TV, Latin TV, etc... all cost money to run.
They don't pay the stations to carry them, it's the other way around.
Channel 6 was recently purchased out of bankruptcy. Then they immediately got into a race with WPRI/WNAC to enter the local HD broadcast capability. Meanwhile, they have been overhauling their news presentation and have shown much progress trying to field credible newscasts. So I understand that only so many things can be tackled at one time.
I hope they choose a 6.2 that is not duplicated in Boston. We have enough ME-TV, MY-TV, LATV, 4 different ION stations...

I just checked WLNE's programming schedule on Zap2it.com for the whole week and it shows programming 24 hours a day every day. And I've turned them on late night overnight at times and they were still programming. So it appears, unless I'm wrong, that they are not like the other Citadel stations that sign off at night.
Over the years, most people in the Providence/New Bedford area watched either WJAR/10 or WPRI/12 for Providence area news and information. WLNE/6, during the analog era, was (for the most part) a dead last in the ratings mainly due to a "less-than-perfect" signal, as compared to 10 and 12. It's not like they had not been trying to be competitive. During the WTEV days, they had some great talent and really tried to do their best. But, no matter what they did, in the eyes of the "average viewer" they were always considered "that New Bedford station", no matter how much they tried to have a Providence identity. Now with all Providence/New Bedford area TV stations gone DTV, ALL signals are at par with each other. WLNE is no longer saddled with a short-spaced VHF assignment from a transmitter site in Tiverton, RI. Like 10 and 12, they too transmit from Rehoboth, MA. WLNE hit some rough times over the past few years. Now with a new owner, an ABC affiliation that has been saved and new HD equipment, they have all of the ingredients to finally "make a go at it" in trying to being competitive. Now it's up to the viewer to decide. Both WJAR and WPRI are legendary stations from the early days of TV. People are creatures of habit and prone to do things out of habit. Let's see if WLNE can make the grade. As it stands right now, it's uphill all the way.iyiyi said:
