Ok, who are the listeners of AM radio today? of the people on here, do you tune to AM when do you turn to AM? ? If you listen to AM , what is it you listen to?

Yes, I listen to WEEI 850am, W I L D 1090am (This station is on daytime ONLY), WBZ 1030am, Rumba 1430am
If I lived in Rhode Island, I'd listen to 1340am and 1450am They run "Timeless Favorites" from ABC Radio Network in Dallas, Texas.

it's about all I listen to. The only time I go to the FM dial is to listen to WMBR once in awhile and the Pats on WBCN. If I want tunes, it's MP3 time

on AM, WEEI, except the mornings, when I listen to WWZN. ESPN radio. WRKO for the Sox only and WBZ for Steve LaVeille and Jordan Rich and traffic/news...

I listen to AM a lot. Mainly for talk and sports programming. And, no, I am not an old guy. With regard to talk shows, I appreciate AM's ability to bounce off the ionosphere at night. This allows me to hear certain shows that are not carried locally (or are carried, but delayed). It also helps me to hear the 'Sox when I am outside of New England (thank you, WTIC).

One other reason that I listen to AM when traveling is because you can sometimes find formats (like "real" oldies) that aren't offered on FM. I at least try to take a break from FM and scan around to see what crops up.

All of the HD hiss (discussed elsewhere) is having a negative impact on that sort of listening, but no one in an official capacity seems to get that. For example, I listen to the Red Sox broadcasts less often now because of the high-pitched hiss that KYW throws all over WTIC. It has to be a good reception night for me to listen without getting a headache. Last year, it was generally no problem to hear the games in the clear, because KYW's IBOC exciter was limited to day use.

Yes, but not as much as I did five years ago. Now, I listen primarily to Howie Carr on WRKO, will occasionally tune into Laura Ingraham on WNSH, and enjoy the weekend Irish Hit Parade on WROL. I'm also a fan of the Classic R&B blocks on WILD. I try not to listen to WEEI, but if I need a sports fix I'll tune in Dale and Holley and Planet Mikey.

I listen to the radio at least 4 hours per day, 7 days a week. It is 90 percent either AM or the internet stream of AM stations.

When I lived in Boston, I listened to WBUR 90.9 and WGBH 89.7 pretty much exclusively...EXCEPT for the Sox games on WRKO/WEEI, so that did add up to a lot of AM listening. Hell, while cooking dinner I'd often have the game on the TV in the living room and on the radio in the kitchen, so if I heard a big play on the radio, I could run to the living room and watch it (Comcast digital cable was about five seconds behind WEEI/WRKO). Although there was a major dropoff in AM listening during the time I lived in Melrose, b/c I could get the Sox via WBOQ 104.9FM, usually.

Living in Rochester I listen to AM a lot because the local pubradio outlet, WXXI, is 1370AM. It's convenient because I live about 500-1000ft from the towers, so WXXI is pretty much the ONLY station on the AM band I can get in my house. Everything else gets swamped. It only works for part of the year because of the sunset timing, but if I can I'll listen to WTIC 1080AM via skywave to catch Sox games.

WEEI 850 ( when I am in the City, 103.7 at home) ,1090 (I listen Only for the Soul Music, Hate the talk shows,TJ Morning show and Ownership). R.I.P. WRKO ( Top 40 ), WCAS ( Urban A/C ),WILD ( Nash Ownership Urban A/C ),1150 ( The Touch ), and 890 ( Spanish music ).

WRKO (Howie, Sox or I get Sox on WBOQ); WBZ for some talk (occasional Rea/Leveille/J. Rich,
and some news headlines), WEEI (Sox, sportstalk)

WJIB 740, WBZ 1030 (mostly for school closing announcements), Radio Disney, WEIM 1280 from Fitchburg, and WMRC 1490 from Milford.

WBZ-AM 1030 is the only AM station I'll listen to when visiting Boston. I have it on the FM dial about 90% of the time (usually for WJMN-FM and WXKS-FM).

Radio is on 24/7 with me. AM EEI- DnC, BigShow, Mikey. RKO- El Rushbo, Howie(during long Big Show Breaks), Savage Nation (during long Mikey breaks) ESPN- Cowherd(instead of The View), Tiricco and Van Pelt(now since they added Van Pelt)

Music from Mp3 and streaming on WFAN or KNBR(San Fran)!!

FM- Only if I remember about Laura Ingraham.

As a kid you live in an an FM World. Then once you hit a certain age it seems like it's mostly AM. These days you can get music from a number of different sources. I like the wide variety of AM programming better. It's more fun to listen to. My favorites are the all News stations from New York.

WEEI for sports talk, WBZ for traffic and weather (hate IBOC frying soundon car radio), WRKO -Sox games, WJIB when in the mood for its music.

I like AM. Sometimes there are really neat shows on there. There's a neat little show Saturdays 6PM-7PM on a station in Connecticut that plays music from the Caribbean Islands. (1150 in Middletown and 1420 in Old Saybrook if you're ever down there). If I didn't live really close to a 1KW AM tower that splatter that overpowers the station I'd listen to it.

Then there are some shows that are so bad that you just have to listen. The Polka Party on WRYM in Newington, CT. (Listen online Sunday afternoons at http://www.wrymradio.com/). The hosts that took over the show after Jeff Banas stepped down (shortly before John Jeski died) do a horrible job. Lots of dead air. Songs starting in the middle of talking. Plus the show is bi-lingual Polish and English.

There are more, but it's too hot to think. :p

AM radio is what got me into radio. I used to listen to Norm Nathon when he did his WBZ weekend shift. I still love finding stations from all over the country and Canada. Most of what I listen to now is XM for O/A, Ron and Fez, and then they play AM Coast to Coast from 1-9AM. The only time I'm on FM is to listen to WBCN for T/R or the Pats.

'BZ for Traffic on the 3's. That's it. Occasionally I would listen to Randi Rhodes on the late WKOXKS, but I'm really an FM-only person these days.
