Unless something has changed recently, Happy Radio isn't sounding all that great, either. It's something in the air down there in Bay City. Sure do love that little town, though.

Happy radio sounds better finally. Strange thing is KMKS now KBBB has been off the air for a long time now.

I’ve been wondering what that buzzing was coming over KAYD in there weak spots over here around Vinton and Sulphur

I remember reading about 102.5... Someone bought it not too long ago. It's funny they bought it to shut it down...
The station filed an STA request about a year ago to operate with a backup transmitter at 10% or licensed power as the main transmitter had failed. No idea if that situation was ever resolved.

Thanks MediaFrog, didn't see that STA.

Who knew lemons could be purchased in Bay City, outside of the HEB?

I didn't check last night but the 2 or 3 nights before that I heard the buzzing sound overnight. Seemed to have fixed itself around 7 or 8 AM.

I also did not see this. Does anyone know if it actually is on the air with 10% power?

I also have not heard 94.9 KEON since late April.

I can confirm they fixed the audio fairly recently. It used to sound so flat

Isn't KBBB some sort of official emergency alert station? If that is still the case, I feel like they have _some_ sort of obligation to keep the signal operating...

Not to my knowledge. Bay City EAS falls under district #13, which is Houston. LP-1 is KTRH. LP-2 is KUHF-FM.

Is KBBB just too expensive to fix for a small town?
Same ownership as KIOX and Happy Radio, for what it's worth. KKHA had bad audio long before the current licensee purchased it. KMKS's transmitter crapped out in the middle of the sale. Lemons galore on the Gulf Coast.

KBBB of course used to be KMKS until recently. KMKS was originally on 92.1, but moved to 102.5 as part of several station frequency changes and power upgrades in conjunction with the upgrade of (then) KRTS 92.1 in the early 1990s.

I vaguely recall that when KMKS was on 92.1 it was responsible for any emergency alerts involving the South Texas Nuclear Power Plant in Bay City. I also recall that special fixed frequency radios were available for people living near that plant that could be activated by a special signal transmitted by the station. There was some news coverage at the time that pointed out that those receivers would be made obsolete by the KMKS move to 102.5. Never heard what the final resolution was.

Knte came back up with rds yesterday. I did catch Keon also they must be on low power.
