Does Anyone Miss Eddie Andelman and The Sportshuddle On WTKK ??????

It has been 13 weeks since Eddie Andelman went off the air waves in Boston after 40 + years of sports talk.

WTKK decided to up his rate for air time by double claiming that they had a waiting list of people looking to buy the time....Eddie called their bluff.

So what has TKK done on Sunday nights , pay to have Simon Batinder come in a do a show for almost 3 months......now TKK is running "Best Of's" from 7-10pm.

Bring back the Sportshuddle TKK and take whatever $$$$ Eddie wants to give you.....

You know, I never thought I'd say this but given the lack of live programming on Sunday nights I actually got used to tuning in to the Huddle.

I think the Kawloon is the only one's really missing (sniff, grunt, ummm) him. We've got Gresh if we want mouth breathing with our sports ::)

Despite losing his fast ball, as we all do after 60, or 50, or 40 etc., Eddie is one of the true originals, along with Larry Glick, Dale Dorman, Jess Cain among others. What has happened to Jim McCarthy and Mark Witkin (sp)? Last I read, they were alive and retired, working as a sprts agent specializing in hockey, respectively. A reunion would be a scream. Even old guys would be more entertaining than most of the crappy syndicated political and brokered talk shows.

I actually kind of miss the show that Eddie bumped. It was hosted by the guy who used to be on NESN.....Rogers was his name I think. They had a trivia question each week from somebody named Owen Murphy, and reports from vartious Boston reporters; lighthearted, nothing too serious.

Eddie was good in his day (horrible voice notwithstanding) but just became bitter and agenda driven, later. He actually turned me into a Jimy Williams fan. When Eddie was on 'EEI years back, I used to catch about an hour of the A Team each day at lunch. He just ranted about Jimy so much (most of it was unfair and preposterous criticism) that I started to root for Jimy.

I listened to the Huddle in the past year before Eddie retired. It was painful. You couldn't touch the Huddle in the 70s, especially the comedy bits. But that was over 30 years ago. I'll give Eddie, Mark and Jim credit for creating a ground-breaking show that, in its heyday, was far more entertaining than just about anything on present-day sports radio. Eddie's day has passed, though...

Has anyone heard if Eddie's producer and sports update announcer , Andy Carbone, has landed at another station on the dial ? Andy did a great job producing the show and his reports were excellent. He used to produce Steve Buckley's "Quality Hang" , Ted and Fred as well as NFL Sunday on WEEI back in the mid 90's. He also was news and sports announcer at WESX-AM in Salem MA for many years before the station was solid to a spanish broadcasting company.
