Does anyone not listen to KIXS any more?

The sound quality has been horrible every since they changed over to the lower powered tower. I have been listening to KYKM ever since, they maybe in mono but at least they have some highs and mids. ???

When did they lower the power of KIXS? That used to be a very powerful station. I have picked up KIXS in Corpus, San Marcos, and Sealy. I haven't tried to pull them in lately.

This is one of those deals where they actually increased power (85 to 100kW) but lowered the antenna height considerably. As a result the overall coverage area was reduced substantially, and although it's still a Class C1 it's close to the minimum height requirement. KIXS also remains a little short-spaced to KQQK.

Close enough. As far as I remember they got it up and running that month, although the license to cover the change wasn't approved until February '09.

Well the coverage of KIXS is still horrible but it sounds like they got the sound mixed right now. It sounds a LOT better.

That's stupid! We all know antenna height is where it's at. All they do by increasing power and lowering their antenna is increase there elec bill and get out less. Smart move.

I think it's kind of a catch 22 situation from what I understand. Height gives you greater reach (good for "in car" listening), but more power gives you greater building penetration (better in high rises, downtown areas, and on cheap clock radios). So I guess it's kind of a trade off and it depends on the market and even the format and the types of listeners it draws.

Speaking of the devil, I heard KIXS just fine yesterday evening when driving along I-70 between Columbia, MO and Kansas City!
