Does anyone on here listen to Smokies Baseball?

Fun to attend. Great for families. Baseball is a great sport. And, it is cheap. If they could just take away the trailer park in the distance, it would be perfect.

However, I have, never in my life, met anyone who listens to minor league baseball. I just don't see the old chaps sitting around the barber shop talking about that second baseman for the Smokies. In my opinion, this is one of many flaws that starts and ends with Mickey Dearstone. The new 100.3(is it WNOX or WOKI) would be better served to have Hooker's show in the morning IMO.

Of course the handful of posters on R-I are a representative sample of the entire population. I was curious, though why the only MLB here is the Braves on 106.3

The Braves? On the radio in Knoxville?

Learn something new every day.

I still won't listen. I'm a Red Sox man.

Have been since about '74

And what is this '106.3' you speak of?

Not very many people listen, but it's a time buy, a super easy way for Citadel to make a lot of cash without having to do much of anything. The Smokies buy the time, employ the broadcasters and producer and handle all the sales. All Citadel does is collect a check heftier than you might expect. They tried at one point to price the Smokies out, but they paid it.

The Smokies can't afford to not be on, simply from an advertising standpoint. Being 15 miles from Knoxville, they're out of sight, out of mind without the broadcasts.

I thought everyone knew that the Atlanta Braves have been on WLIL "The Legendary AM 730" for the past 25 years. ..Well maybe not!

I live about 50 miles away and occasionally go to a game. I listen to 990 just to see how the Smokies are doing. I think from an advertising standpoint, being on WNML is ok, since it's a sports format. The Smokies make money and Citadel makes money. And, being a Knoxville team, why not. considering the market they're in. It's the closest we'll come to Wrigley Field.

In Greeneville,we have the rookie league Houston Astros of the Appalachian League. Since 2004 they've had a great following of the local community. A new 15 million dollar Single A size stadium thats on the Tusculum College campus. The downside is: the local radio stations can't get sponsors. The games were on the air the first two seasons but fizzled after. The local folks don't understand what "minor league" is or the farm system. They think the team has to be good to be at such a nice stadium or on a college campus. The Elizabethton Twins have always been a good team, win the championship every year and their stadium is a dump. A Johnson City station has them on the air every year. Figure that one out.
