Does anyone remember 107.7FM WENN?

I used to listen to that station before it switched to alternative rock in 1997. Well, I took a break and when I tune to 107.7 back at the beginning of 1998 (when gasoline was extremely cheap)I was like "What the ....?" and turn the radio off. After a year I started listen to radio again and gave it a chance. Ever since until March 31, 2005, I listen to that station off and on. Well, at least I got to listen to WENN for a year before it swap with WRAX (which is weird) and became a gospel station after.

By the way, I can't really pick up the new "Hot 107.7" WUHT. Probably because they cut the power in half. In my opinon, they should left the x alone and put "Hot" on 100.5 making it "Hot 100.5" but whatever, it's too late.

Yeah, I agree they should have left WRAX @ 107.7 b/c Hot is a joke at best. The current urban format on the 107.7 frequency is one that lacks direction because it's trying to be an Urban AC/Urban hybrid and it's not working so well. Hot isn't beating either of the Cox's Urbans in any demo, so anticipate the station to skew its format or a total format change by the summer of '06.

Also, don't be surprise if WENN @ 105.5 change format in the upcoming year, either. Because just like some other users have mentioned earlier, Clear Channel isn't very happy with the lack of revenue the gospel format is bring in even though it has decent ratings.
______________

Yeah I had the opportunity to work for WENN the last time it was an urban format (v1059/power1059)Yeah I remember WENN on 107.7 "One Nation one station"
seems like they had an afternoon jock by the name of B-Boy.Anyway yeah I miss WENN on 107.7. I haven't got a chance to listen to Hot1077 much being down south
in dothan but yeah I have heard they really don't know what to do with it.I didn't know they had cut the power in half thays news to me.

I wish CC would give the urban format one more chance WENN was great once it could be again.

I completely disagree. Hot may lack direction, but the main goal has been accomplished. Huge numbers have been taken out Kiss, it's dropped nearly 3 points since Hot has launched. Yeah, it didnt affect Jamz much, but Hot and Jamz are two entirely different stations. Hot and Kiss aren't relatives, but aim closer to the same demo.

That was most likely Citadel's main goal, to stop Cox from running the table, and they've certainly done that.

The X's ratings had plummeted through various staff changes and WANZ entering the Bham area.

Its up for debate as to whether repairing WRAX wouldve been a better move. BUT the market has been re-saturated. Expect stations of every format to bring out all their guns toward Xmas (shopping season) and try to gain ratings.

That I can agree with. WENN was shuffled to a new frequency so that WRTR (in Tuscaloosa, and not audible in Bham (yes I know what I said earlier, there is enough power, but too much interference)) could have more power. Even though its been planned for some time, this happened even though WENN was 5th in ratings, proving its lack of worth to the Clear Channel group.

It will be interesting to see whats done with the frequency. 105.5 is a very catchy and potentially hot area of the dial in Bham, being between ZZK and Hot. Id like to see a modern rocker in Bham, The X comes close, but needs to go back to what it was good at, alternative. Its just a bastard now.

Notice I didnt mention 106.9 The Point. That station has been meandering forever. That particular station, sadly, would be a perfect candidate for Jack.
______________

i used to listen to the station, 107.7 wenn, when i was growing up in birmingham (i have been living in the midwest for 11 years now). not by choice.
it was an institution, as far as bring the best in modern hip-hop and r&b music.
when i attended my 10th year high school reunion (parker high c/o '92), i notice that 107.7 fm was an alternative rock station, which pleased me a lot because the birmingham market lacked an alt rock station. now birmingham can listen to 100.5 fm for alt rock...that'll be my story when i'll venture 10 hr to the south this weekend for my grandfather's funeral...the late jim hampton sr.

The problem is with Hot is their getting their butts beaten nearly 2 to 1 in every timeslot of the day in their target demo. Yeah, Kiss has slipped about 3 points of the last 6 months, but don't except that trend to continue with Kiss from now on. Oh yeah, Chris Coleman is that secret weapon that I mention that Cox had up their sleeves that would use to take Hot out permanantly. Unfortunately, Cox is still running the table in the market because Hot barely a blimp on the radar to them. I predict that Hot will be just a memory within the next 18 months, if they continue on the path they're taking.
