Does anyone remember WELA?

I remember when WELA 104.3 out of East Liverpool, OH flipped formats to classic hits in November 1997. From what I remember they played a large variety of music. I think that this was actually a JACK format with the exception that they had DJ's during the day. I am one that truly would like to see a JACK style format here. WRRK seemed like they were on that path in December but opted to stay with their same format. It's still not too late for WRRK to go JACK!

You Betcha!

Heck yeah!! Classic Hits 104 great station excellent music mix, Bob Simpson doing mornings and RD Summers in PM drive...then the invasion of the Frogs. (gag me with a spoon)

Henry Aaron hit 755 career home runs. How many of these were of the "inside the park" variety ?

Edited by trefdawg on 07/28/05 01:11 AM.

Yes, I loved that station so much. It was a true alternative to everyday (Pittsburgh) radio. They played just about a little of everything (pop, rock, soul, country, oldies, some early 80's). Those were songs that I can even relate and as well as grew up listening to --- this station has the clearest signal. I live not far from the stick! But years later, the FROGGYS invaded that station, and the rest is history!

Yes, it's true. It's not too late for either K-ROCK or WRRK to go JACK-FM! I am hoping that would take place in January, around the time that Howard Stern makes the transition from broadcast to sattelite radio. I was vacationing in Niagara Falls NY/ON last week, and I sampled their JACK-FM 92.9. Very interesting mixes. This is the kind of radio Pittsburgh really needs (and I do mean really!). There is too much duplication of one format, particularly in this market.

Case in Point:

WRKZ-FM 93.7: Rock
WRRK-FM 96.9: (Classic) Rock
WDVE-FM 102.5: Rock
WXDX-FM 105.9: (Alternative) Rock

WLTJ-FM 92.9: AC
WSHH-FM 99.7: AC

Something needs to be done here folks. Any thoughts?
