Does Anyone Still Add To Their Aircheck Collection Today

I was wondering if any of you aircheck collectors still record todays DJ's like you did back in the 60's & 70's. I still listen to my tapes which I have transferred onto CD's now, but then I realized how hard it was knowing people like Joe Mayor, Bob James, Jeff and Flash, Kid Leo, Danny Wright, Phil Gardner, Paxton Mills, Lou King Kirby and many others were gone from the Cleveland airwaves, and I have many DJ's at least saying "Goodbye" to their listeners on their last day. You had a bond with them on the way to work, or while at work and on the way home. You always had that favorite DJ you had to listen too everyday. I don't think many of us are "Sad" when someone is let go today. Its not the same anymore and I can't remember the last time I found myself saying- "I need to record this jock just incase they are gone tomorrow". Will the listeners of today remember half of these jocks 20 years from now? How sad radio has become!!!

Well as far as CHR radio goes, we have 2 of the best on the air everyday in this market. Kasper and Java Joel.

Both have worked in the bigs (Kasper in Philly and Java in Chicago) and put on entertaining shows day after day. Something would be missing without those two on that station and I'm sure ratings would reflect that.

Tim Richards might not be in the same class, but he is the perfect fit for mid-days on Q104, IMO. He airs a ton of calls and you can tell he really connects to his audience.

Regarding airchecks...my collection dates back to the late 1960's, focusing on DJ's. My current airchecks are of talk show hosts (yeah, right wing) because I think this genre of radio could be squelched in the not so distant future (I am old enough to remember the 'fairness doctrine' when it was in vogue.) DJ's? I guess there are some good ones out there, but I never hear them. All I hear is unidentified music and commercials. I haven't heard anyone 'talk up' a record in two decades, actually identifying the name of the song and artist. I think today's programmers believe that we listeners obtain that info via osmosis from our speakers. If my observations are inaccurate, it is because nothing on music radio interests me (I am of a non-desirable demographic!!!) And that is my opinion.
