Does anyone still record airchecks on VHS or audio cassettes?

I was just curious because I have been using VHS lately. I record WOGL a lot and for example if I wanted to record Street Corner Sunday I could do two shows without interuption on one cassette. It's most likely obsolete for most people, but it has worked for me.

I used to tape all my programming on VHS tapes for 1650. although after a bit i switched to computer.

I still occasionally put stuff on audio cassettes, but very rarely.

As a passionate DX'er who loves to travel, I still rely on cassette tapes. I literally have thousands of them, and I have recordings of stations from all 50 states. There is just no other way to efficiently record one's DX catches. Until I find something easier and more practical, I will continue to rely on cassette tapes.

Actually, my recommendation is to buy a VHS/DVD recorder that converts VHS to DVD mainly because DVD's take up less storage space, but that's just an opinion.

I record almost exclusivly to cassette. I also tend to like editing w/ cassette decks more so than on a pc. Even though a pc would be more efficient. I do sometimes record my cassette recordings to cd, an then perhaps mp3.

As for VHS, I only use those if I'm recording an internet stream, Mainly Rick.com's WT40 end of the year show or some special I might like to own. Or I've also used VHS for recording XM. XM seems to sound better thru my Satelite TV system versus my XM Tuner.

Casettes fade badly in sound quality when you record over and over...don't they?

Nor mine, but I do transfer them if it's something I want to keep.

Absolutely! I just record onto them and edit onto CD later. Just finished the KMET Day on KSWD and now starting on the 4 Day Farewell on WBCN. I know I can do this on the computer but I'm one of those people who are unconfortable with it and am afraid of losing material. However, I do trust it enough for the streaming alone.

Btw, thanks for posting this thread. It reminds me that I need to buy more tapes for the 94.1 WSJT/WiLD 98.7 frequency swap here at 5PM tomorrow.

I just edited a friend's cassette recorded aircheck. He asked me to "clean it up". Horrible hiss, one channel louder than the other. My friend needs to use this aircheck to find work as he was recently laid off. What a shame his station only provided cassette skimmers.

There's absolutely no reason to use cassettes any longer. My Sansa mp3 player has a very sensitive FM radio built in, and will record the FM to a flash drive (highly recommend the Sansa players!). At home I use "Audio Hijack" to record radio broadcasts. If you have a big enough hard drive, you can record a whole month continuously without interruption.
