Does anyone think XM could use a mainstream country or variety hits station...

As far as variety hits go, on the XM side you've got The Blend, The Pink Channel, Mix 22... I could go on and on. They may not be under the "Jack" name, but a few of those are essentially one and the same. The last thing satrad needs is another "variety hits" station.

i thought the whole idea behind these satellite stations originally was to play music that terrestrial media wasn't covering - and if that's the case....then i would think a mainstream country station would be a good thing... :)

That philosophy may have been good back in the 70's or 80's, but this is a whole new ballgame - as i have understood it from others who have been in this longer than I, the idea for satellite radio is for these niche channels like mainstream country or adult hits or 50's music - formats that need to be served in the way that they used to be back in the day...:)

Rock At Random (XM 161) is pretty much a variety hits station. As for mainstream country, "Nashville!" (XM 11) is pretty much dead on. The Highway (XM 16) is great for just new country.

Not to mention all the other classic rock, hair bands, metal, etc. channels. I think they have your variety. :)

I wouldn't say Rock@Random is variety hits at all. It's more of a classic rock station. It doesn't play any pop hits. When it comes to adult hits, I think the best option on XM would be MIX on 22.
