Does Brockton need 5 Haitian FM radio stations?

The pirate situation has gotten out of hand in both Brockton and Dorchester/Mattapan, but I'll concentrate on Brockton in this post. Do these pirates really think that there's enough of an audience to support this many stations?

89.3, 98.9 (RIGHT next to WPLM!) 101.3 (WWBB), 102.1, and 103.1 (WODS!) (plus the 4 or 5 on the AM dial). Where is the FCC, especially with the ones on first adjacent frequencies to local stations, destroying those stations' signal in downtown Brockton.

Pirates don't usually think about bothering to do research studies to determine their potential demographic audience numbers and to judge the amount of format competition within their market. If they want to go on the air, they just go on the air.

Too bad. There's no other outlets for minority broadcasting on the FM dial. They are just filling a void.

pirate radio stations

Politically correct or not, they are committing a federal crime, and they should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Pirate radio stations and illegal immigration are a slap in the face to everybody else who plays by the rules.

putting aside the illegality of pirate radio for a second, what does illegal immigration have to do with the topic? Are all people who start pirate stations illegal immigrants? I was on a pirate station (Allston-Brighton Free Radio--we were technically a pirate because of the 'juiced' transmitter) and, far as I can tell, none of us were illegal immigrants... I loved my 5 years at the station, even if only 20 people were listening...

once again, putting aside the illegality, apparently these people seem to think their voices should be heard...

Apparently, "these people" have no respect for the law. Apparently "these people" are clueless about the American ways of doing things. If they are, indeed, illegal immigrants, their voices should not be heard, and their opnions count for zero.

Legality is not something that can ever be "put aside". Pirate radio, in English or otherwise, is always illegal. Period. It is not a topic that is open for debate. Consider yourself extremely fortunate that the Allston operation was shown leniency. You lucked out...

I guess we did.. and it was a great five years. No regrets. I'm just glad I've been able to keep my show going on the internet, with NO restrictions on content, language, etc...
