Does Charlotte Have Anything New

Other than voice track oneliner computer auto stations, anything new, creative, live, and exciting in the market :)

It ain't just Charlotte, that has pretty much become the norm all across the country. There are exceptions, but they are few and far between.

The format isn't for me but I must admit WSGE 91.7 is interesting. At least it's something different.

They have an APD/MD opening and I was considering applying but the music is just too far from what I know and enjoy. As a MD I wouldn't be much help to them plus since I don't have a college degree I don't think my application would make the first cut.

I'm waiting to hear what comes on 870 AM.

WDYT is new, am news talk. Whether or not it's interesting is up to your political leanings, but at least it's locally owned with a local morning and afternoon show.

I thought of WDYT. I give them credit for trying but they won't be a force in the market until the have a stronger signal. Even then I don't know what their lack of a decent night time signal will do to them.

WSOC AM had a very hard time going up against WBT years ago even with Cox behind WSOC.

WBT's biggest competitor is probably WFAE.

At least WDYT had Stevie Wonder on live on their morning show the other day, I'll give them two thumbs up for that!

Wow that's quite a scoop for WDYT. Heck that's a scoop for any station! I agree, two thumbs up!

Today coming home I was listening to American Top 40 from 1979. I stopped into my local Circle K for a drink and heard the same song I was listening to in the car. Could it be? Yes the was, the Circle K was listening to '70's on 7 from XM satellite radio.

Maybe this is a new trend in Charlotte radio....

I heard you left 104.7 Mike..Whadda doing now? BIG APE!

I have to give WDYT credit. I think there morning show has improved tremendously in just a few months. When I'm in the mood for talk, I think Jon Robinson is 100 times better than Al Gardner.

I agree completely - Robinson's personality is great to listen to.

Thanks for asking. Still doing my fulltime IT gig. I was doing radio just for fun and some extra money. Gradually both the fun and money tapered off so I decided it was time to leave.

They didn't let us talk much. When I was there live I probably did more bits on the phone rather than on the air. We didn't get many calls but it was fun talking to the great people who did take the time to call.

I left at the end of August and you're the first one to mention it.

Does this mean you think the show has improved since Liz Luke was canned?

Mike,

You sound a lot like me, I am now doint It full time, I left radio in about 1995 after doing it full time for the better part of 30 years. I got into it for the chance of meeting chicks, stayed in it for the fun and the money.

The chicks never materialized, the money went from great to good to ok finally to pathetic, and finally the fun went away. When it became a drag to go into work every day, it was time to leave for me. I miss the good parts, and I am glad the bad parts ore over.

Exactly!

I dated a few ladies that I met that were listeners and radio helped me get over my shyness. I did a lot of really neat things that most never get a chance to do. Today it's a boring, thankless, and sometimes frustraiting job. Things change.

Absolutely, You guys know how much fun radio used to be.. Growing up in Florida and working at a lot of stations, man it was great to do a live remote from Canaveral Pier or on Fernadina Beach or at the Gator Bowl, Orange Bowl, U of F ..The girls back in the day would overwhelm you..and man..Ya didn't pay for anything, Movies, Shows, Drinks, meals...P....y (That's penny's) Dealership in Jax actually gave us cars to drive..Those were the days..even doing sock hops at local high schools or introducing the teams at a local football game..or opening a store and cutting the ribbons..In those days "We were Stars".. I really regret the younger radio generation will never get to do these things!

BIG APE!

I heard it on Majic 94.1. It's nice to hear Casey again.
