Does Chattanooga Need 3 Country Stations?

After looking at the numbers, US101 could definitely use some competition and I think Clear Channel was wise to try and protect them by switching 101.9. (Hasn't 101.9 tried classic country and failed? There have been so many different formats on that frequency I can't remember).

Now, there's "Duke 107.9" which makes three country stations. How do you think Duke will affect US101? Do you think Chattanooga can support three country stations and who if anyone do you think will pick up the oldies format?

Given 101's complete dominance of the market I don't see how even a competitor pulling a four or even a 5 share from it will have a long term effect.
______________
Until it happens, it hasn't happened.

I think US 101 could use some competition, but unfortunately 107.9 has an awful signal. I went to Chattanooga yesterday and the multipath and fading on that signal were the pits.

I seem to recall 101.9 had some of its best numbers when it was traditional country a couple of years ago.

US101 has only dominated because they had no competition. In any other market they would get their ass handed to them.
Besides, there wouldn't be THREE Country stations if Clearchannel didn't try to use bad behind the scenes information to jump the gun against what they apparently thought would be a Classic Country station. OOPS!
Regarding Duke's signal, I picked it up coming back from Atlanta one evening, and I was 50 miles out according to the sign on I-75. Duke is now 25k with a new tower and transmitter only a few miles from downtown Chattanooga. And the signal is very competitive. Besides, it don't take 100k to cover the market.
