Does Dallas ever cross your mind?

Well, I’m proud to say that my run in Dallas, TX has come to an end! Got the word that Hot Springs Arkansas is taking me in for an Engineer position and some other light duties including an air-shift.

I’ve done everything that I can do in Dallas short of Management and some light Engineering. I know my way around the studio and Engineering room pretty well, but transmitters will be a new learned skill. I know just enough to burn the place down and what ever you do, don’t touch the AM stick while it’s energized!

All of you have been so supportive with my run in Dallas between ’94 to ’04 and you know who you are… Thanks for everything! Born and raised in this market and the opportunity to get to work for the same market without having to leave town to come back is very unique. It’s time to pack it up and move on to new adventures and get some new life experiences. Seems like everyone I’ve met in radio has a story to tell. Well, it’s time for me to go get my story. See what others have seen; work in a market where they expect you to be more than just your fancy title.

While some people play radio here in Dallas, I have real full-time work again! I figure spend a good 5 plus years out there and I’ll never want for another job. Board-ops, Production, Producers, Air-Talent, Sales, Management are a dime a dozen. There’s so many in this market looking for work, there’s really nothing left to do. Seems like just having a good work record for always being there, never late, never calling in sick, and pulling miracles out your butt in the final second, isn’t enough anymore to survive.

To the rest of you I leave behind in this market, I wish you all the best of luck in your journey for that “Next Big Gig”.

Thanks for taking the chance on a kid caught between Ol’ school radio and the deregulation error. With out ya’ll, I’d still be working radio without pay somewhere in Terrell.

Well, Market #5 is losing it's best board monkey, that's for sure ;)

Seriously, though, it was a pleasure working with you, and I wish you the absolute best of luck. You deserve it.

May the road rise to to meet your feet,
And may the wind be at your back,
May your days be light,
And your beer be dark.

Here's to you bein' Five By!<P ID="signature">______________

Well Doc, I'm glad to see you've landed on your feet. Glad to have gotten to know you at 990 even thought the circomstances there were, to put it nicely, unfortunate. Thanks for all your help with the spots, especially the Winstar one. Best of Luck in Arkansas

Congratulations on your new position!

Bet you will like it in Hot Springs.

And Hot Springs will like you Doc.

Keep on keepin' on ...

Doc:

I am sorry to see you leave but in the same breath hope that this endeavor will make you that much better!

It was indeed a great pleasure to meet with you and work with you (albeit briefly)-- and know what I do about you-- YOU will do well in Arkansas!

Here's to you! Hoping you do great things there-- and in five years-- re-evaluate and see if Dallas has a place for you or does Arkansas get the best!

Stay in touch!

Just a thought

Dave
