Does Dayton need a station like The Sound?

What do you guys think? Dayton has no true Alternative station(The X has become one of those Active/Alternative hybrids)and 'XEG could use a competitor. The Sound is a great station, the best i've heard in years. In fact, i'd rather listen to them through static than over half the stations in Dayton. ;D

Won't happen. CC owns rock in this Market. Cox has a signal that can't penetrate downtown with their cute classic hits thing, and they aren't touching either of their two remaining FMs. Your only hope is something happening with a radio 1 station going to the new company. And they really don't have much of a reason to change much either.

I live in Clark County and The Sound is pretty staticy and spotty. The X isn't Alternative. In 1995-2001, under the guidance of Jeff Stevens and Allen Rantz, they were a TRUE Alternative. Now, they're an Active Alternative hybrid. 'TUE had an awesome competitor in WING-FM until Radio One blew up 102.9 and made it not-so-"HOT". CC owns Rock in Dayton, true, but if a competitor came to town, it would be a different story. CC is ripe for the pickings as far as i'm concerned.

It's yet to be seen if Cincinnati needs a station like the sound.

Cincinnati DOES need The Sound and the numbers prove it. Thanks Moderator.
Right on! The Sound is a fantastic station. Anyone that questions whether Cincinnati needs The Sound, well, do humans need food and water to survive? ;D

I wish to offend no one and if I may, I also wish, with all due respect, to implore you to consider that the sound may be experiencing what may just be early sampling and hype. This could potentially subside as the many early samplers find it is not really a format they actually can listen to that much.

If I have offended anyone in the past please accept my sincere apology.

You don't get numbers that high from sampling. And you can listen for a pretty long time if you like that kind of music. You obviously dont.

Why can't people have differing opinions on here without everyone getting snarky?

You can't judge from one book whether or not The Sound truly has staying power. Look at tv and you can see universal examples of that from shows that started out as major power players, then dwindled in a puff of smoke. Do I think The Sound has it, yes, but let's see what those numbers say in a year from now. Though I think it can be universally agreed upon, the initial marketing and creation of buzz around The Sound was phenomenally packaged.

The initial polls after the 2004 presidential election say Kerry was in the lead and was going to win and we all know how that ended up.

Touche
then lets agree to say its too early to toot the sounds horn or to say theyre going to be around forever.

Sir, I do agree. This is what I tried to state before I was verbally accosted. I was berated by some callous strong-armed radio types, called hideous names, and then sent off the board into the radio abyss by the man behind the curtain. It's often troubling being onegreatplace.
