Does Dayton Need A Urban?

Let's review.

Z93 (even though it is owned by Radio One) is a true Mainstream CHR.
945 is a Mainstream CHR but rhythmic-leaning. Not a true rhythmic chr.
1029 is CHR/Rhythmic because of the heavy rotation of the rhythmic songs. I heard Justin Timberlake's Cry Me A River on there last night. What a surprise!

Dayton could use a good Urban. Kind of like The Wiz but more LIVE and something that would make Reggie Beas and the boys at HOT 1029 poop their pants.

It would be nice to hear a true to form urban station. One with local rap battles, mix shows, battle wars, etc.

Dayton needs a good urban.

One in a more modern-day mold of what WDAO-FM used to be.

OK, I'm showing my age here. And, believe me, I know the music has changed, and that's not what I'm
talking about.

I'm talking about a station that really connects with the community (not just by appearing at a seemingly endless number of sponsored "club nights" per week). A station whose DJ's make it sound as though there's a real "connect" with the artists it plays (not just with the "syndicated" morning show). Lastly, a station that gives back to the community it serves. Those of you old enough to remember programs like "Buzz The Fuzz" (which aired not at 5 AM on Sunday, but if I recall correctly, on a weeknight.) With so many problems facing urban youth today, you could easily develop a live call-in talk show to address those issues and do it on a weekly basis.

I respect the Radio One people. But, for the last year, I bristled everytime I heard the Top Hour ID promoting
that the company was "celebrating 25 years of service to the community." Whose community were you talking about? You certainly haven't been serving Dayton 25 years.

Kevin.. you hit the nail right on the FREAKIN POST!

Nice post. Kind of like U92 used to do. Serve the community. A real urban. One that provides not only Hip-Hop & R&B but community love. Can I get an AMEN? :D

Kev, I would definately like to shake your hand on every last single word of your post and if you just happen to toss a couple back every now and again I`d buy you a cold one :). Dayton truley neeeeedsss an URBAN in it once again. So what Dayton is surrounded by cornfields and bails of hey, the urban form of music is still needed. As we alllllll know, HIP HOP is the biggest form of music being purchased as of the last 20+ years. As they say, it`s the NEW rock-n-roll & BTW, I do remember WDAO-FM purhaps the best radio station to have ever played any form of urban music and all of it`s new titles like CHR/RHYTHMIC-RHYTHMIC-TOP40 RHYTHMIC shucks people it`s music, just play it and bring back the REAL hip hop I think we`re all getting a little bit tired of who`s CRUNK and who`s not. CRUNK, what a joke. And to the person asking if they could get an AMEN, well amen, hallaluah, praise the LORD and let me jump up, stomp my feet and catch the HOLY GHOST. :)

I am so glad I started this post. Public Enemy, Kev, we should contact someone and get a Urban here. The chances of someone actually doing it may not happen but it's worth a try. Clear Channel won't do it because of 945 but there are plenty of others that may. I'm sick of having to rely on 945 or 1029 to jump on the latest Urban tracks first. U92-- a great station. My grandpa being the manager there on the first air date. Shanice- I Like Your Smile was the first track. From 1991-200(something) it reigned.

94.5 is owned by CC right? Funny thing is, EVEEERRRYYYYY single time I travel out of town I listen to these stations owned by CC and they sound sooooooo good so when I come back home I always get online and check that station or more CC stations over the net and they just beat anything going on around here including HOT 102.9 although that`s Radio-One. What is it about this market that these corporate people just don`t care about? Have they never seen the movie "A field of dreams"? What`s that famous quote from that movie "IF YOU BUILD IT THEY WILL COME"? And then you have these corporate companies who hire a consultant to tell them what music & direction they should take their stations, and these consultants don`t even live in that market. They want to know how to get to the listeners when they have people that work for them that live right there in the market, yet they hire someone to come in and tell them how to run their station. Am I the only one here that sees these corporate people to be totally oblivious to what`s going on right there under their noses? Rich people with money, you remember how E.T. would say Elliot`s name in the movie "Elllllliiiooottttt" Corporate people = "Iiiidddiiioootttttsssss"

LOL! I understand totally. I wish U92 would come back. Or....another urban station. One that does have battles, a community server, real urban..not the station that's late on music and when it launches it kicks off "...Jamz In A Row"
