DOES HJY STILL HAVE WEEKENDERS?

Yeah I know I could answer my own question by just tuning in but it isn't that easy when you're not sure who is on or when and I'm not all that into the format anyway. They do run syndicated shows and I'm sure Big Jim and Scarpetti are on. The only other full timers who would pull weekend shifts would be Jenn and Battle. The last I knew it was only Pete Silva and Ryan. Do they still have actual weekenders live or tracked?

I haven't listened enough on weekends to even know.Ryan used to be on late Sunday afternoons.I'm not sure when Silva was on.I think at this point now that Clear Channel has successfully stripped Coast and B101 down to the bare bones they will concentrate on HJY.If the station is a cash cow we may not see as much of it as the other stations but I think weekenders are an eventual thing of the past. We've been saying it for a few years but now it's true.Other than HJY there is nowhere else they can save money at that cluster.

I cannot believe I am about to type this, as I have railed against automation and voicetracking for years. But given the unadulterated crap that is three of the four Clear Channel stations in the Providence market, at least 'HJY has weekenders, even if they are voicetracked. At least 'HJY has personalities that are local and known commodities in the market. As a Clear Channel property, I fear greatly for 'HJY's future. Despite all of the bad things that Clear Channel has done to radio, WHJY remains, in my opinion, one of the top three AOR stations in the country. It would be heartbreaking to see Clear Channel ruin that.

HJY's success is reliant on Paul, Al, and Charles along with the station's history. Maybe they're on target with the music but it's 2009 and who cares? I'm not criticizing the station but a lot of their success other than the aforementioned three people does rest upon their reputation. I still wouldn't put it past Clear Channel to mess with things. They've done it in other markets. Maybe budgets are such that the only way they can maintain HJY is to slaughter the other stations in the cluster. I wonder how many hard feelings towards HJY there are among others there and those who were laid off. I also wonder whose fault B101 and Coast are? Maybe the parent company fiddled with things and certainly had a say in expenses but things only got extreme recently. B101 went through personnel and music changes that supposedly were necessary. Were they really and did the changes pay off? As far as Coast has it been a matter of lousy programming decisions for years?
