Does Howie have a non compete clause?

Cohen said that Entercom Boston, LLC, the owner of WRKO-AM, has voiced objections to Carr's move, and he and Carr are prepared for a possible legal dispute.

Any non compete clause would be null and void in Massachusetts, as AFTRA helped passing a law that voids them.

I thought that was the case.

It would be pretty ironic that Howie, who has no love for the union he is forced to be in over at WRKO, (the same union that had the producers mikes silenced for a while, ) is going to have his bacon saved by them.

Casablanca, Howie is the bridesmaid getting the gig (see the original post on this) now that Barnicle passed on it. Not good enough for Barnicle, but Howie will take it.

You are so correct, his dumbing down of the audience is tired. The only reason they are all fighting over him is that he's developed an audience of sheep.

My question is, how much did he make at WRKO - 200 K? What will TKK give him? 300K

What does he make at the Herald, 125K ?

He certainly isn't making 800 large...

WRKO doesn't have a union anymore....

Basically Carr is indeed replacing Barnicle...or at least Barnicle temp. had that morning slot.

More in the Herald (Jason W. was so mad he smashed a glass award on his desk, sources say).

WRKO The Talk Station died Monday. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm.
Burial will be Thursday after a service at the Jerry Williams Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers,
send congratulations to Greater Media...

Hey Howie: you'll be down the road from your fave paper, the Boston Globe-Democrat! :)

He's gotta be making way over 300k (@ TKK). Severin is reported to be making a cool million a year...I am sure Howie wouldn't settle for a whole lot less than that.

Maybe not from the station, but Howie never saw a sponsorship opportunity that he wouldn't jump (or at least crawl) on in a heartbeat.

Carr Wars: Legal fight brews as Carr leaves WRKO in radio daze

By Jessica Heslam

WRKO appears set to launch an all-out legal battle to stop Howie Carr’s defection to its FM rival, but lawyers for the star talk show host say station executives bungled a key chance to keep him.
Carr’s contract, which is up in September, had a renewal option that gave Entercom the right to renew his contract for one more year by March 19, according to Carr’s attorney, Bret Cohen of Mintz Levin.
Cohen said Carr agreed to extend the deadline three times but Entercom failed to exercise its option to renew his contract.
Carr, a Herald columnist who has hosted a highly rated WRKO afternoon-drive show since 1994, stunned station executives yesterday when it was revealed he is jumping to WTKK 96.9 FM Talk.
“All they would have had to do was send us a letter saying we agree to extend his personal agreement for another year,” Cohen said. “And there’s likely not much we could have done about that. They frankly dragged their feet on that issue.”
Carr struck a five-year deal with WTKK to host the station’s 5:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. show. He is slated to debut Oct. 1.
But WRKO AM 680 spokesman George Regan insisted in a statement, “Howie Carr is under contract to Entercom.

I don't know but he must be making $$ from his book, that's for sure.

From Taylor on radio-info: "“Carr’s attorney Bret Cohen is going to be earning his keep, as Entercom stands ready to claim it has the right to match any other offer and (at the very least) a 90-day non-compete that should keep Howie from starting at FM talker WTKK on October 1.”

----------------------------
Whether or not that non-compete is legal, who's to say. Howie may be missing from 'RKO for awhile as
this plays out (a la Severin). Hold on to your hat...it's going to be a bumpy ride.

(Meanwhile, at a posh office on Guest St., a janitor sweeps up broken glass from a smashed 'award'
as Jason W. rallies the troops.

"It's over, coffee boy. Carr dropped the big one."

(Jason): "What? Over? Did you say over? NOTHING is over till we say it is! Was it over when the
Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?"

Finneran: "...the Germans?"

Feinburg: "Forget it, he's rolling."

Jason: ...it's ain't over now!

Did anybody see the great skit Jon Stewart did a few weeks ago? He donned horn-rimmed glasses, took them off while looking upward at a clock...and then gave a time when even Republican support for the president died at such-and-such an hour, a la Walter Cronkite.

Why does a 'non-compete clause' even enter into the discussion when WRKO dragged its feet with signing Carr to an extension??? How can WRKO put off on signing the contract and THEN come out all high-and-mighty about 'non-compete' when it was part of the contract that the station hadn't yet signed!!WRKO has a leg to stand on if Carr signed a contract, but it was the STATION that kept delaying the signing and asking for extensions...not Carr.
