Does IMUS need the cast of characters?

I think that Imus, Charles, Bernie and Lou are the show. Do the other cast members bring anything to the table?

Apparently he needs the newcomers to placate Al Sharpton and the rest of the PC Police.

Well yes, that is understood. But aside from that, do they bring anything to the table??

Not that I've heard so far. In all fairness, it's difficult for a couple of new comers to break into a group that's worked so well together for so long. Charles, Bernie and Lou all have parts they play with the I-man and play well. The dynamic of the show and the interaction between the players is smooth and well-established. You can hear the difference in other, newer teams that haven't learned to "dance" together: They keep stepping on each other. They keep pulling the conversation off-track. But not Imus and his regular cohorts. If the new guys aren't contributing much now, maybe that's for the best. Maybe better they should feel their way into the party slowly rather than crash in. In the old days, when "outsiders" have filled in, they often upset things trying to fit in. The show is not just Imus, it's the chemistry in the ensemble.

In a word, "No." They both sound tentative and weak. Why do you think Warner Wolfe's returned to do sports?

Tony can't even read his own material and Karith's attempt at humor is feeble at best.
She's playing the kiss-up and he acts like he'd rather be elsewhere (and if he keeps it
up he soon will be). Mercifully they each get only one shot per show.

Anybody else think "the Godfather" was hilarious?

I am amazed that these two were hired. I can understand Don wanting to add a little "color" to keep Brother Al from freaking out, but neither of these two performers reflect the polish that should be demonstrated in top market personality.

Are they funny? well, I thought tony was this morning, but both of them stumble over there scripts and sound like small market newbies still trying to learn the craft. Can a "black person" perform in this arena? Hell yes. Look at Marvin Webster on the John boy and Billy show. He does sound "black", (and that is part of his act)...but he is also very smooth and polished, and down right funny. That is what the I-man needs. Of course then brother Al might freak if the staff sounded "too black".

No matter how good there material may be, it they cannot perform it with the smooth one-to-one expression that the market demands, they should get going and let someone who has paid his or her radio dues step up and swing the comedy bat.
And quit caring what Al Sharpton and those other idiots think!

HI from Cincy! I am currently (this morning) rewatching the first Imus show on RFD-TV and thought the same as you folks; that the new sidekicks, added to a great and fluid program, was kind of like putting a hoodscoop and whitewalls on a brand new Corvette. It just doesn't fit. I think 2 things should happen. First they should be given AT LEAST until May to blend in and practice their parts as it probably still too early. Secondly Don needs to take they leash off and let them start some on-air smack (this applies to Bernie also). If they remain constrained they, along with the new Imus show, runs the risk of stagnation. Something I hope doesn't happen...
