first of all, its hard to say if WABB is going to let some music that they continously play.....OUT THE STUDIO! I.E FLO-RIDA: LOW. C'MON.. Did the new pd realized that this song is old or is he just old and lazy and keep telling the people who select the music, "hey, that apple-bottom jeans song....it's really popular right now. lets play it again"! i don't believe AT40 plays it anymore so why should they, its fine to play it like once a day (during the early hours like 4am;)....that's fine to me, at least! WABB needs to wake up and start playing ALL THE HITS not WABB's HITS that we play over and over again! I can't wait for Satalitte radio to be avaible in my car in the coming weeks in my new 09 Grand Cherokee. So long radio!
fm radio at least.
. Plus, why are you guys airing AT40 2 times a day? Uh, wierd and pointless!

**Sigh** I do not want to see this station go down in the drain, or has it already? Wait, wheres the ratings on this station? Are they any? Arbitron has ratings on WABB at the most recent of the fall of 07! That's Pitiful! What or who do you guys run under?

sorry to be dramatic but this station is just plain weak and lazy.
Wheres that "Listen Live Online" option that you guys told us that was coming like a year ago.

Weak and lazy? More like weak and clueless. WABB has fallen into the pattern of just looking at national charts and playing songs. No longer has the station have a "Mobile feel" to it. Jammer was the last one to give this station life and understand this. Part of the problem is pop music is in a down cycle right now. Nothing really blowing out the speakers. A lot of similar sounding product from the same recycled artists. Part of the problem is, from what I hear, "consultant radio". Mostly that troubles this once out of the ordinary station is the woman calling the shots from what I hear. Some of it is economy. When it's this bad, the tendency is to get really conservative on a product to try and boost sales. At least in mid to small market stations.

WABB hasn't bought Arbitron ratings for the past year. That why you don't see them. But trust me..they're holding their own. If it wasn't for the bs economy and total lack of ad dollars, this station is sooo ripe for the pickings if someone were to try and flip. As long as they had people in place who get Mobile.

As far as online listening? Ownership ain't gonna cut that check.

I try to avoid the lovely happenings at WABB since I left over a year ago, but all I can say is ;D

Hopefully management is realizing the people that were in place weren't as stupid as they wanted us to be!

Isn't WABB locally owned and operated? If so, why isn't the music director having more of a say of what gets played since there is no bueracracy involved? So I see WABB airs AT 40 twice on Sundays now. I don't think I've heard the Sunday Open House Party with Cannon. All I know is I couldn't stand the Sunday Open House Party with Kane. Still, WABB could always air Dawson McAllister on Sunday nights if it's that desperate for ratings.

There may be no "bureaucracy", but from what I understand the station is being run solely based off of the chart and the playlists of a select few major market stations. That being said, I don't know what the ratings are, but I doubt they're desperate. No matter how bad the station may sound, the 18-34 demo doesn't have a whole lot of options in the area. Now that Matt McCoy is on Q, they have a chance to attack ABB but I'd be surprised if Jan Jeffries took that chance after getting burned twice before.

We'll I'm going to play devils advocate here. I know everyone likes to bash WABB but as someone who was friends with people in Cumulus in mobile who was let go, i can say that WABB cant be as bad as that place. So what WABB plays at40 twice on sundays, i was told that the night ratings for at40 is actually way higher than the morning at40 ratings. Did that ever occur to you why they run it again at night? I don't know, just saying. There is a lot more stations in the market that are in my opinion way worst than wABB. They are actually live all day and even in the overnights. Live morning show, middays, etc. Where do you see that these days? Cumulus just fired everyone and now Kicks only has one jock running the whole station. My friend was dedicated to them and it doesn't matter, they are all about the bottom line. Say whatever you want, but I'd rather be at the locally owned station. And Matt Mccoy on Q100? He's all by himself and his show is boring. You can't possibly think one guy in morning drive all alone can take down a bigger live radio station? Every station in the market has there flaws, but I just dont hear what you guys are saying about wabb. I love top 40 so maybe you dont like my opinion but I think they sound good. I looked at there playlist and they match just about every other top 40 out there. Every top 40 station plays the same songs over and over. Maybe its just me because I've actually lived in other cities besides Mobile. Just speaking the facts. Name another radio station thats live all day other than The Cat in P'cola. They must care about something to put that much money into the product.

"There is a lot more stations in the market that are in my opinion way worst than wABB. They are actually live all day and even in the overnights"

Uhhh...no they're not. Just because you might hear a voice, doesn't mean that they are "live". I have it on pretty good authority that the only daypart that is completely live is mornings. All other dayparts are at least partially voice-tracked.

Alex,

I don't like Kicks 104.

Therefore, I don't listen to Kicks 104. Nor do I start posts on how I hate Kicks 104.

Try it sometime.

That's live more than Cumulus stations, is it not? They have one live jock on each station, while WABB has tons of live jocks including weekends whether they vt an hour or two of their shifts or not. At least they are live and local. Again, I would still pick the locally owned radio station that has a bigger staff with their one station than an entire Cumulus cluster has for 5 radio stations combined. Complain on here all you want, but I just have to give props to the company that actually has a live/local feel such as WABB. You are just a dollar amount in corporate radio. When WABB actually goes down to two live shifts then jump back on here at run them in the ground. I know they have a lot of turn over but so does every single CC station and Cumulus station in the country. Q102 in Philly went thru 4 night shows and 3 midday shows in two years and that's a top 10 market. They also play there powers every 45 minutes, that's a way higher turn over than WABB. If you want a 1,000 song playlist buy an ipod, until then, you are going to hear the same songs over and over. Doesnt matter where you live, if you listen to top 40 radio you will hear the same songs.

A whole lot of broad and undefined strokes trying to paint that argument there. Let's break this down, shall we?

"That's live more than Cumulus stations, is it not? They have one live jock on each station, while WABB has tons of live jocks including weekends whether they vt an hour or two of their shifts or not. At least they are live and local"

-Tons of jocks? 7 or 8 is tons? Okay. Just because you might have a couple more voices on the station does not make one more local than the other. I have seen stations with a live staff of 3 take down a station with 6. Just because they worked harder to plug in to the community Right now, WABB is just sort of there compared to where they used to be. You can't say they are "live" when they are voice-tracked. Locally based, yes. Live? Only some of the time.

"I would still pick the locally owned radio station that has a bigger staff with their one station than an entire Cumulus cluster has for 5 radio stations combined"

-That is just wrong. Stop it. BLX has just as many people alone. Throw in a couple from DLT, the couple from Kicks, etc.

"I just have to give props to the company that actually has a live/local feel such as WABB."

-This statement tells me a couple possible things. A) You haven't lived in Mobile for more than a couple years, or B) You are very young, or C) You just don't know.

Up until a couple years ago, ABB had a local presence. a REAL Mobile "feel". They were EVERYWHERE in the community, and you knew it. People loved them like a friend. It just isn't that way anymore.

"You are just a dollar amount in corporate radio."

- That is industry wide now. Not just the big corps.

"Q102 in Philly went thru 4 night shows and 3 midday shows in two years and that's a top 10 market. They also play there powers every 45 minutes, that's a way higher turn over than WABB."

- I am almost willing to bet 3x your weekly allowance you don't have clue #1 why Q102 does what they do, or the circumstances behind it. I'm not going to make that bet, because I am in radio. Can't afford to gamble period. Don't ever try and use a major market station to make a point about a station in market 90+. Sure the general plan is the same, but there is so many more little things that play in, you just don't know.

"Doesnt matter where you live, if you listen to top 40 radio you will hear the same songs."

Generally, yes. But not exactly true. Some areas will be more rock leaning. others maybe more adult. Some, more rhythmic. Do some research. you'll see it.

Anybody else want to jump in on this?

i love when u voice an opinion on here and people get so defensive. The very exact reason you only find one of the three people posting things on here A) Kids or B) part-time board ops, or C) out of work bitter people that have been fired looking to trash the station they were fired from. Every once in a while you will find someone just trying to speak some truth to all the bitterness, in this case its me. Why cant anyone ever post on this site something good that a station has done? Its always someone bitter, angry and negative.

Im not going to keep going back and forth with you. You are entitled to your opinion, and so am I. Just to touch on a few of the comments posted earlier, BLX only has two live jocks now, not 7 or 8. Kicks only has one now, you should really read up on allaccess and see how they blew out half of the staff a month ago. Next subject- I've been here for almost 6 years now and I do remember what you were saying about how ABB was out all over the town up until a few years ago. Im willing to bet again on this one, They stepped up when HOT signed on and they were out all over the town to keep up with the competition. Competition is gone now, and you just dont see any radio station out as much as 3, 4, or even 5 years ago. The ecomony is in the pitts right now and no company or station can afford to drive around and waste gas, and pay for street teams. Everyone is cutting back everywhere including all of the stations here in mobile. Now onto the final subject because Im not going to argue my opinions any longer, and you shouldnt argue yours, you should speak your opinion in a good fashion and not negative and out to attack someones opinion.

"Doesnt matter where you live, if you listen to top 40 radio you will hear the same songs.

Generally, yes. But not exactly true. Some areas will be more rock leaning. others maybe more adult. Some, more rhythmic. Do some research. you'll see it."

It doesnt matter what way you lean, you can lean rock, lean more adult, lean more rhythmic. If its a top 40 hybrid, you WILL hear the same songs over and over and over. Hot AC no, but Top 40, yes you will hear the same songs my friend.

i think we can both agree that radio is not waht it use to be, and no one has a ton of money.

So you are trying to tell me Hollywood, and Nick are the only live jocks left at BLX? BLX still has a few part-timers also. If you want to count the pt'ers at ABB gotta count em at BLX also.
Yeah, I did read all access. BLX am show got tossed, so did 4 other employees in the building. I would still bet they still have more than 5 employees in the programming wing like you claim.

WABB's street presence goes back further than when Hot 104 signed on, and continued on even after Hot was gone.

You really need to do some research on music. It may be similar to a point, but not every top 40 plays the exact same music. Don't make me bust out playlists.

Sorry if I hurt your feelings by breaking down what YOU posted. Know what you are talking about, or word it properly if you want to avoid being "attacked". I've talked out my ass before and and called out on it. that's the way it works.

-"Every once in a while you will find someone just trying to speak some truth to all the bitterness, in this case its me"

Truth and opinion are VERY different things. What you said is your opinion, not truth.
