Does KCBS 93.1 FM still have management, or an engineer?

KCBS-FM has suffered a considerable L/R balance problem for more than a month. CoolEdit clocks the average RMS power difference at 3.85 dB!

The imbalance apparently exists before the processor. Note the inconsistent density between channels. (The same tuner receiving neighboring KMVN 93.9 shows no imbalance.) Aircheck of KCBS versus KMVN is here.

In a market that pays five figures for every last 1/4 dB, and on the station that's obsessed with the last 1/8th, how does this persist unnoticed for so long? Someone has egg on their face. 8)

Out of curiosity, a couple of questions:

1. Are you inside the usable contour of KCBS?
2. Have you done the same test in other locations?
3. Have you moved the receiver and its antenna within its fixed location, such as from one room to another, to eliminate the possibility that multipath or some other propagation related condition is not the cause? Sometimes a move of a fraction of a wavelength makes a major difference.

Otherwise, it seems odd that the station would not have noticed. Have you called them?

P.S. I do not get the bit about "paying" per db.

KMVN should consider unbalancing their channels if they think it might help
their ratings emulate KCBS's.

I'll check tomorrow how it sounds on my radio, if I can stomach the format.
