Does KMCQ show in book?

Curious if KMCQ has shown up in any trend/book, etc? It's mostly just curiosity on my part of whether a "just put something on that stick" format is out-performing the ones that are TRYING to make a buck??

Now that I have posted a radio topic...can I put "pork" in this bill and ask a TV question too? Why the heck doesn't KING-TV give their weather guys a remote with a silent switch for forwarding the weather computer? I assume they HAVE to be using a garage door or TV remote from about 1961..... "<ker-CLACK> you can see the clouds are <ker-CLACK> forming off the coast and <ker-CLACK> heading our way. Oh sorry...was I shouting, Jean? I realize I can't <ker-CLACK> hear myself think....."

They don't I.D. much, so I would imagine that's equal to stumbling on somebody's iPod transmitter. They don't know what the station is, so if they don't stick around long enough, it's not going to matter.

Wonder if they are considered "non-comm" even if a diary comes back? We actually have KMCQ on a preset in the cars as it's a nice i-Pod without having to load one!

Nope, it's licensed as a commercial station. If it got diaries Arb would print it in the book.

It would be interesting to see if it ended up showing up in the PPM now that it's come to Seattle.  I think I read somewhere that even a pirate station in Florida showed up there thanks to the PPM (only to be removed by Arbitron).  Perhaps some motivation for a buyer to grab the station?

Funny you should mention KMCQ.... I was just at a birthday party on Saturday in Port Orchard, where my friend's Mom talked about "an oldies station on 104.5" that she's been listening to.  She said in all of Port Orchard the signal is great, but when you get to Bremerton, the signal gets spotty if you are behind a hill unless you are up in East Bremerton or Silverdale.  I told them about the station, and their "hopeful" plans of moving to Cougar Mountain for a better signal.

a pirate could not show up in the PPM. For any station to show up in the PPM they must have installed official Arbitron encoding hardware... I doubt Arbitron would sign off on coding an illegal operation.

Some pirate operators are also good hackers. You just never know......

In this case, a panelist from New York traveled to Florida. Somehow s/he was still in "compliance" but registered stations from Florida in the sample, if I recall correctly.
Orlando gets a new Fall report from Arbitron - because of "an unlicensed station"

Published on Wednesday, January 28, 2009
Three diaries that apparently showed listening to a 95.7 were originally credited to Daytona Beach’s classic hits WHOG – which is “out-of-market” for Orlando. Now Arbitron has determined that those diary mentions were in fact for an Orlando station, but one that is “unlicensed.” That suggests that one of Florida’s many pirate FM stations received credit in the original Fall 2008 survey. Arbitron will release a revised book on Monday, February 2 – deleting the listening from those three diaries.

Ah. it was diaries.

Indeed, as Arbitrons Dave Forr explained in a recent interview with radio world.
PPM Encoders are nearly tamper proof with the "core encoding" taking place embedded in the silicone chips.
You can read the whole article here: http://www.radioworld.com/article/76760

Now, if a pirate was for some odd reason re broadcasting an internet stream of a station that had the PPM tone
Encoding, it might be picked up in that market. But that ruins all the fun for the pirate eh? :D
