Most who actually live in Seattle know the local rock stations do spotlight local talent, but usually only on a weekend specialty show. But in this day and age of corporate radio, local talent in Seattle fares a lot better than in most markets (as the linked video shows about Boston).
KISW likes to take credit for being a driving force behind Seattle's grunge explosion in the early nineties, but the reality is that they pretty much ignored bands like Soundgarden and Nirvana until they were signed by major labels and were getting airplay all over the country. Local unsigned bands have almost always been relegated to some sort of Sunday night specialty show.
KYYX did a "home grown" album in their PRE-Alternative days --- artists who deserved some exposure. Some of the better cuts got KYYX airplay too...I only remember one cut on album called "Love Be Kind" .... artist, I think, was Greg Boehme.
