Does NYC have an active rock station?

I looked up the NYC Radio guide and only saw 101.9 listed as "rock" but it doesn't seem like a true rock station judging by the website. Is there any station that plays artists like Slipknot, Disturbed, Seether, Linkin Park, etc in NYC or receivable in the city?

NYC never has really had a proper Active Rock station. When K-Rock first came back after the Free FM debacle, I believe the station was classified as such, but it really was just a very small cross-section of various different types of rock. Kind of like RXP with a much smaller playlist. Before April 2005, it was officially classified as Alternative, but was very Active-leaning and did play the acts you mention.

It's really kind of a shame that neither Active nor Alternative has ever been given a proper shot in NYC. Instead we've had various hybrids. Yeah I know, NYC isn't a "rock town", but it still would be interesting to see how a properly focused station with either of these formats would do.

Yea. Another reason I ask is that Sirius Satellite radio is heavily rock-based and it originates from New York. Even though it has a nationwide audience, I would think that if rock was that popular, there would be some influence in the big cities. Los Angeles doesn't have an active rock station as well.

Stereotypically speaking, Active Rock's core audience is usually working class white males, oftentimes without a higher education. In places like L.A. or New York Active Rock is mainly big with males 20 and under...
Hip Hop, on the other hand, thrives in multi-ethnic cities with both males and females 12-34 year olds. Big with both the working and the middle classes.
Modern Rock radio stations tend to have much better demos than Active Rock: middle and upper classes, big with 20-30 year olds, more female friendly, more multi-ethnic friendly, and more higher-education friendly. That's why they bill so well in places like L.A.

Sadly no, although WDHA and WSOU in Jersey do play some of those artists.

Also, on 'RXP, they have been giving away Metallica tickets the past few days although they do not play Metallica- they're too busy seguing Foreigner into Coldplay into the Doors :-\.

active/modern rock is a waste of a signal in New York. Classic Rap 88-00 is the gaping format hole.

That's what I'm told regarding the demographics. For some reason, I had to be different. I'm 32, my parents came from India and I'm a professional and I listen to mostly rock (and dance too!). I also drive a F-150 which doesn't fit my stereotype. At least there's still satellite radio....
